After the race treat yourself to lunch at the Steel Cafe right across the street from the Nike store. Lots of beer selections and the food is great.
The "Steel" Cafe? Are you sure about that?

Been a while, but it might be 'Steelhead'
Steelhead Brewery, kitty-corner from the Nike store.
10. Sundance natural foods (address people?) is the place to pick up Arnica massage oil. The stuff is great for healing knees, shins etc. spendy stuff. Sundance is pretty darn groovy so if if you aren't used to seeing "hippies" you will get yourselves an eyeful there.

Is there something I am missing about Pre's trails? I am not trying to slam, just to understand. Are these the woodchip/bikepath networks north of the river? If so I'm not sure what the big deal is about these because it seems like any suburban/urban bike path type setup. Is there more to it somewhere?
Pre's trail = rapists and Southern Pacific hobo camps. No one actually runs there. The bike paths go up one one side of the river and back the other - that's it. Don't set your expectations very high and you'll be pleased.
Amazon trail is set in the center of town on a flood plain (actually the whole town was built on wetlands). Again, it's an out-and-back loops situation (out one side of a ditch, back the other) which will become boring after one loop, but the north end of the trial (the original loop) is measured every 100m. It's a one mile "outside" loop and a 1000m "inside" loop which is very good for training. The trail isn't in good shape during the Summer because that's when they resurface it, making it too soft and very dirty. By January the rains pack it down to make it runable. When the trail is in good condition, it's very good.
Sundance, 24th and Hilyard. Great place.

Saturday Market will give anyone their fill of stuck in the 60s. Which way? Just follow the strong scent of patchouli.
It's a shame that Zeus (aka BarbieDoll Man) died a few years ago. Hopefully, Frog, the street comedian is still kicking.
Look for the bicycle bus. It can usually be found in the Felony Flats neighborhood, right alongside of white suburban punk anarchists.
Malmo, I believe I will hire you at trials as a tour guide.

I seem to remember a great place to drink good beer that wasn't far from Hayward. It seemed to be south of the stadium. Sound right??
That's the 19th Street Cafe, part of the McMenamins Conglomerate - the WalMart of microbreweries.
So if the famed Amazon Trail is a short one mile and Pre's trail is a crappy place to run, along with the Rexius Trail which is 1.75 miles of woodchips along the side of a road, why would anyone ever run in Eugene? Where do people run for miles and miles on dirt roads and dirt trails? Ridgeline and Hendricks are hilly, but are they good places to run? What else? Running in Eugene seems overrated.
I like to hit PREs trail whenever im in eugene. theres some excellent pot there as well.

The only tour I have planned is a day trip rafting adventure on the McKenzie on one of the rest days, but extemporaneous amusement is always the best kind anyway.

Steelhead, by the way, is rainbow trout that makes its way to the ocean.
Thanks, malmo. The few times I have been there that was my experience. If I go to the trials I will re-adjust my expectations. Amazon trail, is that in Amazon Park? I think I ran there also.
Related question, and perhaps the answer has already been stated, but what would be the best place for a post-Marathon meal this sunday. Pizza or burgers and beer or something like that. Any suggestions?

There are no places to run which would meet the standards of people in most parts of the country, unless you drive. The soil in Eugene is too damp and soggy, even golf course running isn't the same as what most people are used to. The Ridgeline trial is sloppy and short. There are plenty of hills to run on in town, but by and large, most of the locals avoid them, and become veritable gerbils running the same flat bike trail every day.

Looks like Frog is still yukking it up.
