Whats up letsrun, I would like share my improvements in the 800-3200, from 8th (my first time running track) to now.
8th grade
first ever meet: 5:30 mile, 2:40 800m
Second: 5:29 mile, 2:40 800m
Third: 5:25m, 2:35 800m
fourth: 5:26m, 2:33 800m
fifth: 5:20m, 2:30 800m
Championship meet: 5:20 mile (got second), 2:31 (cramped up).
All the above results came from one hard mile every day in practice, two lap w.u., and 10 x 30 yard sprints. So about 10miles a week.
Then I got invited to run summer track. My first time facing 4:20 1500m runners and two sub two 800m runners. I also got introduced to ladders (painful). So about 10-15 miles a week.
1st meet: 1500m 4:57 (third), 2:30 800m
2nd: 1500m 4:46 (ran all out + 4th place only), 800m 2:23 (big improvements today)
3rd: 1500m 4:54, 800m 2:23
4th: 1500m 4:54 (dead last, 3 guys went sub 4:25), no 800m
5th: 1500m 4:43 (new p.r plus third = medal), 800m 2:28 (wanted to break 2:25) + first 3k = 10:59 by myself at a packed meet, seemed forever
Last meet: Didn't qualify for anything but 4x800, (800m split 2:28, I ran third, and we were second to last by about 80 meters)
9th grade, first time running cross-country. Harder workouts, so about 15-25 miles per week. I wasn't ready for 10 or less miles ( because of less running do to meets in summer), so I ended up getting hurt. All races 5k.
1st meet: 19:48, didn't know what to expect. (was before I studied running and bekele, hicham, tergat.....ect) Got 8th out of 70 runners
2nd: 19:24, went out with last meets winners, and died. Got 8th out of now 50 runners, alot quit.
3rd: 9th, at a new pr, 19:16
4th: missed, interior shin splint
5th: missed
6th: missed
7th: First time back after totally not running for tw weeks. I tried to train after missing the first meet, and re-hurt myself. So a 21:02
8th: Region, 21:21, course wasn't tough, I just didn't have my ability to fight the burn. Which I didn't have since my 4:43 1500m.
First highschool meets, I am now doing 6x400s, 3mile runs, 10x200m, and ect. More pain basically. About 15-25 miles per week. Now used to it.
1st meet: First indoor meet: 5:14 mile very slow
2nd meet: indoor: 4:54 1500m didn't run well because I was very tired ( got about 5 hours of sleep traveling their), and a 3k in 10:37 cramped up.
3rd: outdoor: 5:11 mile 6th, plus 4x400m Jv (slow, my 400m pr is 62). (I run varsity in distance though)
4th: New pr. 5:08, ran all out (came through first 8oom in first at 2:21, yes a new 800m pr.), then I ran 11:30 2mi (cramped up really bad from over eating after starving 8:00am mile).
5th: 800m 10th in 2:18, plus new 2m pr in 11:16
6th: new 2m pr in 10:58.40, plus 5:15 mile (did not feel good, knotted up)
7th: First major meet, mile 4th in 4:55 a new pr and a long time goal broken. I split 800m in 2:21 then died again. Then a 3200m in 10:45.68, a huge pr. got third and a medal.
Last meet before region: 10:52 2 mile alone, next person was 11:20. Plus
800m in 2:20, very sore, I was in 2nd until the last 200m where my body just said, "sorry, I'm shutting down now."
I'll be back with my region results. My new goals are 4:34.99 in the 1600, 2:10 in the 800m, and 10:09.99 in the 3200m. By the last summer track meet.
