I'd like some people to explain why we run our high school kids in the 1600/3200 when they only run 1500/3000 in college.
We lower and shorten the hurdles, use less weight in the throws. So it perplexes me as to why we would run a longer distance in the mid-distance events.
I don't see the advantage for this ethnocentrism?
Track and Field is dominated by US sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers. So why do we continue to exploit running the mile for ol-time-sake when we aren't bringing in the hardware in the middle distances?
