Are they even in the same league?
Maybe not, but they have been my two favorite female runners, for the last 3 + years.
No, they are not in the same league. Not at present. Kara's very promising and should improve.
they don't belong in the same races right now... shalane is a world ahead of goucher

Perhaps not in a 10,000. Kara may get the AR shortly.
All Shalane would have to do is run a 10k to take that record.
Kara is nothing but a spectator compared to Shalane.
Is Shalane a better mid distance runner or a longer distance/XC runner?

Shalane would have to beat Deena's 30:52 - might be tough. Certainly more difficult than "...would have to do is run a 10k"....
Yeah, I'd say Shalane would be good for under 31:20 right now, but at this point in the season, Deena's record is probably pretty safe. Who knows how much her fitness will progress by the summer though. Isn't Kara's PR somewhere down around 31:20? So I'd say the two of them would be pretty close, though I would give Shalane the edge. This is all based on Kara's fitness from last year. I don't believe she's raced on the track yet this season, so who knows where she's at.
remember this thread?
Who had a better 2007 season?
DUH
Head to head, I would still go with Shalane.

Flanagan probably ran her best race of the year, in her first track race (8:33i-3k), while Goucher ran her best in the World Champs and Great North 13.1mi, the last two races of her season. If Flanagan can have a better season plan next year, she can run at least as well as Goucher. Both are potential medalists.
I think that Shalane's 14:44 to finally erase Regina Jacobs' record was a pretty good race also.
this thread is silly.
Where did the who is hotter thread go?
