stember has really done well for himself.
Job Tanui beat Robison by more than he beat J. Torres last week. Hopefully a good sign for torres's 5k.
to me, it seems as if the us runners run a great time, and then dont seem to be able to get back...there are a few cases of that this summer
Stember just got to Europe Monday, so give him time to adjust. Also, he and De Sousa (sp?) both tripped.

I hope you aren't talking about Robison. He goes and runs a huge PR and then follows it up with his 2nd fastest time ever that is faster than any in-season collegian in 2 years and you are disappointed? Come on.
Good to see ol' Miklos Arpasi is still at it and running what must be close to a PR for 1500m. Haven't seen him since his brief stint with the Enclave.
In just two days, Gerard has slowed Robison down by 2 seconds.
Go Miklos! We miss you here in NOVA/DC!
Now that was funny.
i've heard rumors that de souza has been injured, he lost the brazilian championships for the first time in like 4 or five years, he peeked very early, he was running like 3:36-3:37 (not sure) very ealry in the season. Hopefully he will realize that he is too damn slow for the 1500m and will eventually move up.
Even if anything happenned during the race such as triping or somthing like that, i still think that de souza isnt healthy to race, he looked horroble at brazilian nationals i guees his recent XC training has finally caught up.
I can come up with one other excuse to his poor performances lately: deSouza could be depressed, he is no longer the south american king of the metric mile, the youngster Fabio Pecanha is now the center of atention, no more hail DeSouza, he used to be the only decent runner from south america but i can see Pecanha going alot faster than him all he needs is a sponsor so that he could go to Europe and finally have some international competition of a high level and maybe next year he could be dragged to a south american record for the metric mile, just like DeSouza was.
I think Pecanha will most likely take the gold at PAG.
Clearly the "Gag Plan" is working quite well for Stember.
Actually DeSouza fell with about 150m to when he was in third place and looked ready to battle it out with the kenyans. One who wes there
right,he fell and the main pack(including Robison) had to jump over him so 3:38 for 1500m Steeplechase.
I knew that something had to have happened - Stember is not a 3.31 masquerading in a 3.49. With the hurdle of DeSouza, he is a 3.31 masquerading in a 3.47.
My impressions of Stember are that his lack of 3K/5K strength is alarming and should have been addressed long ago. If it had already been addressed, then maybe he should go elsewhere.
I would love to see his late summer/fall weeks performed with the Boulder group, as the volume/strength/aerobic part of his training does not seem to be working. This is evidenced by his consistent 1:46-1:47 800m seasonal pr's year after year, only to be followed up by disappointing 1500m/mile races....and even more disappointing 3K/5K's (when he runs them).
Did Stember do well in cross at Stanford? One big mistake our 1,500 guys seem to make is not running cross or at least doing cross type training once they graduate. Webb made the same mistake. The 1,500/ mile is a great event because it takes strength, speed and endurance. Steve Scott competed in cross country club nationals for years after graduation. In addition he would mix in a few 10K road races to build his strength.
Way to Go!
OK, the race is pretty shite for GP1, but the pacemakers were f***ing crap. 53.88 and 61.1 for 1min54.9 at 800m - Im not maiing excuses - but how many of you have run a 1500 were there are 8 second differentials between consecutive laps. After that crap second lap, its just impossible to crank it back up to 56-57 - unless you are doped to the hilt like El G
