First off, let me apologize if elements of the following have been articulated elsewhere. I am merely offering my thoughts for the consideration of the board.
To begin, I think we can agree that what makes a troll successful can be described as said troll's ability to lure posters into a "suspension of disbelief." Most posters know a troll when they see one. However, the manipulation of a reader's emotional state can lead them to engage the troll in argument. Though the poster strongly suspects that the poster is a troll, the slight possibility that they are serious makes them sufficiently angry that they must risk wasting their time by responding to teach the troll/serious poster a lesson. Unfortunately, much to the frustration of the respondent, this proves to be a Sisyphean task.
New RD uses at least two classic troll tactics well. First, he/she mixes the appropriate amount of ignorance and name calling. One without the other makes the troll appear either plain stupid (and therefore not worth responding to) or angry (and therefore easily rebuffed by youths skilled in name calling), and neither of those is bound to attract the attention of the board for a long period of time. However, with the right blend, the troll can both provoke by insult and by offering easy fodder for response.
Second, he/she presents opinion as fact. This tactic is particularly evident in the prize money for females thread. This is a very successful tactic as it allows the troll infinite ability to respond, because there's no way to prove opinion wrong. Name calling is added to raise the stakes and the ire of all the respondents.
However, New RD adds a different tactic, in his/her very identity. Race directors directly affect the running community in the way they choose to conduct themselves and the races they host. In this way, New RD poses a threat to the board. This seems to be the most obvious and effective element in manipulating the emotional response of the poster, and provoking the suspension of disbelief.
Congratulations, New RD. Where so many before you have failed, you have succeeded.
