How far should a milers long run be if I am running 45 mpw
At this time of year (assuming you're looking to peak in May or early June), make it 10-11 miles with a 2-4 mile pickup at the end if you're feeling good (if you're not feeling good, just finish the run). And do some strides afterwards.
When you start getting really race specific in a few weeks or a couple months, you can cut it down a mile or two, and at the time when you're looking to race well (which I assume is a period of 3-5 weeks or so), as a miler you don't need too many runs of longer than 8 miles or 60-65 minutes.
2 hours, if you can handle it. Or 2 1/2 hours.
interested too, anyone else?
what would your season progession look like? what kind of workouts leading up through the phases and to you peak?
10 sounds about right considering you have a weak mileage... U must be an 800 specialist with a lot of speed as well, considering your only doing 45 miles a week. You might be really young and in high school too? Personally I think Miler's should be 70-85 miles a week with a long run of 14-16, while in college.
I am all for that but 45 mpw might not be able to handle 2 hours. Start and 1:45 and goto 155. Thats enough. It will def. help your mile time as well as 2mile and xc.
So that means 10-11 mile runs for you. Your average run is 6.5 mile unless you take a day off. In that case your average run will be 7.5 miles. Either way you should do a 10-11 miler once per week during the normal season.
I am a HS runner lookking to peak mid feb. I am not an 800/1600 guy. I am more of a 1600/3200 guy.
