I was thinking recently after the NCAA meet about an NCAA race I ran when I was in about 30th with just over 1K to go. I had just gotten a bad stitch and was cursing the gods for my luck. I was absolutely helpless to push the pace any harder and was maintaining my position until a couple packs of 5-8 runners went by and just made me shut down.
So I thought maybe if I was in the D III field it wouldn't have mattered. At the pace I was running it would have been very thin up front and at most maybe one runner would have passed and I still would have finished well instead of getting swallowed and ending up nearly 50th and out of an all american spot.
It's the old big fish in a small pond verses small fish in a big pond scenario.
Which would you guys choose?
