What’s happening? 50+ people running outside of the course lines and cutting corners. No way they are going to DQ everyone but they should. How is this allowed?

If they’re in any “contact” (in a big pack) they’ll be fine
I doubt anyone will be DQ’d unfortunately. But some definitely should.
The Iowa State runner Masondo was trying to cheat and cut the course and literally tripped over a hay bale. LMAO that's karma.
These guys caught on camera cutting the course on the final lap. Race was strung out enough by then that they have no excuse.
Messaoudi - OSU
Kipkosgei - Hofstra
Chesondin - Arkansas
Kipruto - Alabama
Kogei - Cincinatti

“Trying to cheat”
If that many runners cut the corner, it was a poorly managed and marked course.
Did anyone else see that Kenyan running along side the lead pack on the inside (a spectator) with his cell phone...for a long stretch-multiple times....I didn't think you were allowed to run alongside your teammates during the race (as a spectator)...in a HS race that's also a DQ...

We are up to 2
Come on losers I know you can invent more excuses!
Running and cutting the corners for a clearly marked course with no DQ's is an embarrassment to the sport. Cutting that first corner allowed multiple runners to stay connected to the front, it didn't happen once, it happened over and over and over again. NCAA not bold enough to hold those accountable for fear of the blowback that might take place is gutless. It was mentioned on the broadcast after one of the runners clipped a bail, not sure how it impacts the finish but for the kids that followed the rules and didn't look for an advantage, you should move up spots in the finish.
If you run over the inside rail our outside the lane on the track its a DQ, lines are clearly marked, figure it out.
Officials during track season: "Your foot was on the line by 3mm. This had no impact on the outcome of the race, but rules are rules, so you are disqualified."
The same exact officials during XC season: "Ehh, whatever. Just try to remain within the same zipcode as the course and we'll call it good."
There are no longer rules for NCAA Cross-Country. 28 year olds running. Paying 6 figures to recruiting companies. Why should cutting the course be any different? Welcome to the Wild West.
Asterisks on the entire meet.

Dozens of runners cheated successfully though, including at least one from Oklahoma State. They didn’t get any karma.
Okay can’t a coach protest the results if they feel like they were negatively effected?

Probably need a middle ground punishment here for it to actually get enforced - 10s time penalty?
It happened in more than one spot. The shot with the hay bales was the most blatant and the camera coincidentally documented it clearly. A turn shortly there after that runners were clearly inside the white line marking the course. That spot looked like somewhere a car or gator would drive, and the footing seems much better. Was the course that soft or slippery?
You see similar stuff in the cycling grand tours and some of the classics where riders essentially go off course to get a better line but it never seems to “cut the course”.
There was a shot where an official was clearly telling athletes to get back on course but it had little to no affect. There were enough doing it I can’t imagine they’d DQ or individual coaches would protest since they likely had an athlete also doing it. I do believe it is up to the course to prevent this. I have hosted numerous invites, conference meets, and region meets and we typically line any part of the course that could be cut (inside of all turns) with flags/rope or a physical barrier like a dance. Terre haute has a fence lining most of the course to prevent this ticky tacky stuff. World cross and USAs and other races will historically do the same. Every inch may be lined.
they put so much into this course (think tech and all the neat stuff from their YouTube video about it) and they kind of omitted some other stuff.
another reason why cross country doesn't matter to most track fans....this charade won't help getting xc in to the Winter OGs where it does not belong.
