He will race great in indoor if he can actually have decent tactics, which have been a weakness for him in the past.

Sub-3:50 at BU looks likely, but yes tactics will be the decider on any titles. He might get a watered-down mile field with Couttie/Martin/Massoudi doing DMR/3K.

Messaoudi's time running in the NCAA is over. On today's broadcast, they said it was his last race for OSU. He's run four seasons of both indoor and outdoor track, so he's out of eligibility.

Can we give some props to both NAU teams. Everyone counted the women totally out after a tough race and they fell pretty far in the rankings. Today- They had 3 All Americans and were 1 point away from 7th place and 11 points out of 6th. Had their number 5 run better the results would dramatically change.
Men scored better than their ranking as well.
To have both teams finish Top 8 is great for where they are right now/ Kudos to Cornfield and the whole coaching staff951 -
Whenever a normal miler type gets a really great result at XC nationals, you know they’re fit and going to run some crazy time indoors. We saw this with Strand last year who placed really well at XC then ran 7:30 3:48.

Of non-pro prospects 800-5K, his ceiling is probably higher than anyone save maybe Nauman. He’s split 46 high on 4x4s as well

And Sahlman is probably much more 800/1500 than Strand, Martin, Murphy or any other normal miler. He ran similar 800m times to Kessler/Nuguse/Hocker/Kerr did in GST last year, and he probably had 47 second speed last summer given his 48.6 indoors training for 1500m.

Yeah based on his pedigree over 400 and 800 it’s a little surprising his NCAA 1500/mile results haven’t been the best, though of course he has run 3:33. I hope he gets a title this year.

He was already one of the top 800m and cross country HS runners in the nation. The range was already there.

and a quick shoutout to Haley Burns who was NAU womens top finisher and All American. she was running at a community college a few years ago and comes to NAU, puts in the work, trusts the process, and develops into an All-American. great work ethic and even better coaching by Smith/Cornfield.

Frosh Tayvon Kitchen (32nd!) had a very strong xc season and ran sub-4 in hs but obviously Owen Powell is a high-end miler prospect with 1:46/3:36/3:56 hs. Don't forget Rocky Hansen, a 3:50 miler who should be a contender at 3k/5k, and Birnbaum should challenge for the mile win this year, also improved at xc.
