He used to be able to pull some of the best american recruits. German Fernandez, Colby Lowe, Joseph Manilafasha, even Ryan Schoppe was a top recruit. What happened that makes Stillwater a very tough disadvantage when it didn't use to be?

Fukk OSU. I’m tired of all of the Kenyans that have dominated collegiate XC on both the men’s and women’s side this season. It has nothing to do with race, either. I would be just as pissed if white Germans were dominating. What irks me the most are these coaches are just buying talent instead of developing it. The other factor always in the back of my mind is the inordinate number of Kenyans that get busted for a little extra aid

I've heard the "Stillwater is bad for recruiting" argument so much and it just isn't true. Yes it's a turn off for many but they have been able to get top recruits for at least 20 years.

Very true. Unfortunately for Coach Dave, recruiting top US kids has become much more competitive now. Top kids turn him down; not like he does not try.

Any coach that has to buy 25 year old freshmen from the other side of the world in order to win is an absolute LOSER.

So EPO isn’t a little extra aid?

They already are coming from the Rift Valley, Laikipia Plateau, and Nairobi; all areas with significant altitude, are generally older; have already run professionally in some instances, and may be using EPO? That’s a huge advantage. If they’re coming here to run, make them earn a useful degree and give something back to society & mankind.

I made this point in the other thread and my post was taken down.

Eyestone is one of my favorite coaches and people in distance running, yet it makes no sense for BYU to attack others recruiting practices.

Nothing to do with age issues, but just in recruiting, BYU is the easiest job in the country to recruit both in state and nationally.

Eyestone and Taylor have so many good Mormon runners from Utah and around the country begging to go to BYU before they even must consider going out to recruit.

With new roster limits, they are now actually denying good kids, rather than trying to convince runners to come.

There just happens to be a huge number of great Mormon hs runners, and BYU is their dream college. BYU is run by the Mormon church and has a 97% Mormon student body.

This is a great problem to have! It also means Eyestone and Taylor have little experience being turned down, or having a small roster and needing to seek out an International or transfer student.

So go BYU, good luck tomorrow! It's just very important to keep the reality of BYU recruiting in perspective when discussing Internationals.

The xc courses is pretty good. The town of Stillwater is possibly the worst college town in America. Starkville is a close second. Smith needs to go somewhere else.

Will someone in Columbia please bring a wicker basket with a picnic lunch to the course, just like Washington and Centreville residents brought to the First Battle of Bull Run?

Mormons are only 2% of the population. The other top 4 or 5 schools get their pick of the other 98%. And now those schools such as Oregon are buying Kenyans to add to their roster. Picking from just 2% is not an advantage. That is ridiculous.
