Saucony Grid Type A--anyone use this shoe? Please share your thoughts.

after wear testing it I chose not to have it in my store either.

The shoe doesnt fit very well and is not at all responsive.

Speedstar, Precision, skylon, 825, burn, all are much better shoes.

That being said, any good specialty store near you shouldnt have a problem bringing it in for you to try out.

Our store actually did quite well with this shoe. In general though we tend to have a pretty slow clientele. ie, the kind of folks who read Runners' World and are impressed by a 20:00 5k.

I think the reason our customers liked this shoe is that it is lightweight (9 ounces), yet pretty rigid and also high-profile. So it is designed more for the heavy-footed heel-striker than the light-stepping, forefoot striking elite runner. If you are the former, then try it out. But if you are more the latter, then go with one of the shoes that the previous poster suggested. Those all have lower profiles and are more flexible.

I bought a pair at the LAM expo and have had a couple of short runs in them. I will be test driving them tomorrow in a 10K to see if I like them to wear enough in my upcoming Marathon. I have both NB 833's and a pair of Precisions and this shoe is much lighter. I found the shoe to be very flexible.

to "Type A running store manager," yes, i would consider myself quick (not NCAA regional qualifying quick, but i'm close to it) and have good biomechanics. i'm looking for something with low profiles, where i can land on the forefoot of my foot.

well, i was looking at the saucony website and also saw the fast-twitch II. anybody run in those? i thought i saw a medial post in there, and i'd rather get something more neutral without the support. it looks like it'd be a good training shoe. any thoughts?

The Fastwitch 2 Speed is unposted (the Endurance is posted). These should feel more like racing flats than the Type A. The fit is roomy in the toebox.

I got it about 2 weeks ago. I really like it. I train in the Skylon, Hayward, and Precisiion. All good shoes. In fact, this morning I ran 13 miles @ 5:20 pace in them.... no problem what so ever. I happen to be a forefoot striker and find them very responsive. I'm considering wearing them at Grandma's.... with hopes of running sub 2:20. So, it's not for just slow heal strikers.

I've ran my last 3 races in them and have actually loved them, then again I am easily pleased.

just got back from ruuning my 10K in the Type A's. Really liked them. Will be using them for for next marathon. Ran a slower 10K in 35:45 to give you an idea of my speed. Looking at sub 2:50 next marathon.

I have the new Fastwitch 2's, raced in them recently. Ran a 31min high 10k in them. Awesome racing shoe! I use to run in the asics gel magic which were also good racing flat, but I am really pleased with the comfort, responsivness and the weight of the Fastwitch 2's. If you are just looking for a racing flat I would go with the Fastwitch 2s over the Type A's. If you are planing a marathon in them or need more support I would go with the Fastwitch Endurance 2's.

I have found that the Type A is a great shoe; I hope it will continue to be made.

I really like the Type A's. It is now my marathon shoe of choice. I got my first pair at LAM last year and have a marathon, 2 1/2's and some shorter races in them. I got a new pair from Holabirdsports earlier this year. (best price I could find).

On a postage scale size 11 1/2 is 9.6 oz compared to NB 833's at 11.3. I perfer them over the 833's and Wave Precision which where my last racing shoes. I am around 6 foot, 155 and hover around 2:50 for the marathon.

well, based on everyone's glowing reviews I just ordered the last pair of 11.5 from Zappo's, so we'll see. I'm partial to Saucony anyway.
