He was running 1:43 in his prime. 1:46 isn’t horrible but not a sign of 2018/2019 Tommy showing up. But who knows where he is in his training cycle. he is young enough to still be a factor…
what happened to him? He was tearing it up in 2021 and before, then he just fell back and haven't seen him win anything since
He was running well last year including 3:29.0 with a sub-ideal ride in Oslo and 1:44.99/7:36 on the other side of it. He never says much in the moment but in this article he divulges he sustained a knee injury in warmup before his heat in Budapest. His worlds tuneup race in London was poor, so don’t know if trouble started earlier or that was more just emerging from making a competitive Team Kenya.
Cheruiyot has been riddled with injuries the last 3 seasons. 1:46 isn’t bad, but his best days are definitely behind him. I don’t expect him to be a factor in Paris even if he can run sub-3:30 again this year.
It sucks because he’s extremely likable and had an insane few seasons at his peak. He doesn’t get enough credit for being the one to push every race from the front while Jakob was still coming up.
On paper, Ovett racing 3:36.8, in heat, 1980 Olympic, 1500m doesn't look too strenuous but J Straub swears making Ovett race sub-3:37 1500m in heat wore Ovett out and is one of the main reasons he defeated Ovett, 1980 1500m final. Doesn't make sense to me. J Straub and Coe raced 3:39.xx in semi-final while Ovett and three others raced 3:43.xx, semi-final to advance. If J Ingebrigtsen has to race 3:32.xx and 3:29.xx to advance to final and if Tim C can get away with racing much slower in heat and semi, who knows.
He gave up after he witnessed Norwegian Superiority. Now he knows he’s fighting for third place.
He seemed to have been nursing a bad hammy for quite some time there, but still managed to race fairly well. I love the guy- hope he scratches his way back to the podium. What a great time to be a 1500m fan!
There is only one LRC user that call him potato.
Playing the ironic here.
Kenya has in R. Cheruiyot the next El G. and I'm pretty sure if he became too dangerous you will start threads bashing him.
