Presumably the same reason Jim Jordan wants to go after Democrats despite allegations against him at Ohio State.
Presumably the same reason why Matt Gaetz wants to go after politicians despite an unfinished investigation against his possible misgivings dealing with a minor female
Presumably the same reason why both Republicans and Democrats are playing guardsmen for anyone who had any dealings with Jeffrey Epstein in any way, especially on the island.
Presumably the same reason why cocaine, Adderall, other hard drugs, anti anxiety pills and other amphetamines and barbiturates have been sneaked into the white house and into other clandestine functions while there is a crackdown on drugs.
Presumably why one man can turn America against itself in the utmost ugly side of profiteering never seen in the USA
It's easier to crack down on something than admit you're part of the problem...much like enabled racism and bigotry on this site.
Was just about to say... maybe there is a TikTok account with Biden's name on it but what are the odds he knows anything about it? Even non-senile politicians would have people to run that account.
I have no problem with Biden having a tiktok account.
You can be against something but also use it if it exists. What's wrong with that?
We at letsrun are guitly of the same offense as biden. I personally think of course it should be banned. We can't have a chinese company in charge of what videos americans are watching. But we at letsrun also have a tiktok account.
The government is not banning TikTok. They are banning Chinese ownership of TikTok, so US government can have more control over it whenever necessary. Same thing happened in the 90s when the US wanted to make Toyota and Honda American companies. Free market and democracy should work only when we are winning. National security horsesht.
Do you think Joe Biden has that ap on any of his personal or government issued phones, that can be used in any way to track, record, or understand his personal information?
He doesn't even know what planet he's on. You think he knows how to use a smart phone? Please.

There are tons of successful politicians who do their own social media posts. For example Trump
It will be an interesting legal battle once the tik tok ban is passed. The US Supreme Court has been historically very if not extremely deferential to national security concerns. But in this case, there would be a conflict with the court's other bias for business rights.
The concern about tik tok is that its parent company is subject to Chinese laws that allow the government to collect data from private businesses on national security grounds. Tik tok has tried to assuage fears over ByteDance being subject to China's jurisdiction by setting up a firewall of sorts in having data reside on serves based in the US or EU. But the internet is the internet and nothing would stop China from making ByteDance transfer data from the US to Chinese officials. So, the concern is that China could track people's movements, use their data to blackmail, enlist spies, steal intellectual property, etc. This is hypothetical and there is no evidence it has happened. But China has very publicly stated that it wants to have cyber warfare capabilities that are unparalleled in any other country. Just a few days ago, Xi made a big declaration about China's military officially establishing a cyber warfare division. China's cyber attacks on the US are not hypothetical. China has been caught on a number of occasions trying to infiltrate US critical infrastructure with malware that could be used to cause havoc across the US. Saying the Chinese would never try to take advantage of tik tok's treasure trove of personal data is like saying the Russian would never imprison or assassinate enemies of the government. China is very much in the business of cyber warfare and enlisting tik tok would not at all be a stretch for them.
Requiring tik tok to be free of control from an entity that is subject to the jurisdiction of the Chinese government shouldn't be an issue if tik tok's owners are just in it for the money. Companies across the world will jurisdiction shop for the best tax advantages and liability limitations.
