What 1600m time and what 3200 time do you have to run to be elite in high school.

4:10 / 9:00 ?
For a sophomore
1600m: sub 4:10
3200m: "9 minutes is not fast for a high school 3200, it's just not fast" - the guy who got last in the fast heat at arcadia probably)
4:05 8:45
This is it imo
4:05/8:50, or top 20, would get you a full ride to all but a few D1 programs.
You think so? I'm not sure about that. Ten years ago, maybe. I agree that maybe sub-4:05 and sub-8:50 are now the elite thresholds. Before the bouncy shoes, it probably was sub-4:10 and sub-9:00.
4:10 is 42nd nationally
8:50 is 32nd nationally
i guess it just depends what one defined as “elite,” but you can run at 99% of D1 schools with these times imo
most of the tops guys haven't gone all out in the 1600 outdoors yet.
Its all relative. Times are not as important as your standing at your school and in your region. Maximize the coaching available to you and represent well in your area. We don't all have the environment and resources conducive to elite times.
10+ years ago I would have said sub 4:20 sub 9:20, now closer to sub 4:10 and sub 9:00... But I'll give you 4:13 and 9:06 final offer.
