His run was a feature on ESPN Sportscenter and CNN. HS performances are very rarely front page national headlines getting sports coverage and regular news views. Webb is super legit ultra legend. We can all agree that a 34 pound bag of almonds is a huge nut sack.
No, his record has been broken, and in general, sub-4 isn't as magical anymore, almost expected that one or two boys could it every year. Webb and everybody since hasn't been able to get to, much less stay at, Jim Ryun level of legend.
Nobody has run faster than Alan Webb's 3:53 HS record. It remains unbroken.
Kessler 3:34 for 1500M > Webb 3:53 mile
And no, sub 3:55 isn't magical either. These days you've basically got to be Colin Sahlman or better, and then you're a "legend" for a year or two. The days of high school legends whose feats nobody approaches for decades is gone, which is good for the sport.

Have you just started following the sport?
No, but your Webb idolatry is like being stuck with DVDs when the rest of us have moved on to 4K blu rays. Nobody is awe of 3:53, or even Kessler's 3:34, not like Ryun's 3:55.

If nobody is in awe why hasn't 3:53 been broken yet?
The current generation of HS students have no idea who Jim Fixx is, and without his trailblazing, Alan Webb probably does something else with his athletic gifts. Ditto Frank Shorter.

3:34 = 3:51 (17 secs conversion)
It has been bettered, by two seconds, even if it hasn't technically been broken.
This isn't Ritz/Webb/Hall senior year. Rupp's 5k record was broken by twice, in two races, by different runners last year. All the high school records feel beatable, nobody is in awe of Rupp/Centro, even though they have Olympic medals, because everyone can feel that there's a mass of people about to be better than they ever were.

Why are we talking about Rupp? No one brought up his 5k record.
You are claiming 3:53 isn't magical for HS anymore yet the record still stands.
Have athletes better it on CONVERSIONS with super shoes? Yes, but again, the record still stands.
