her biggest problem is that she looks bored running against HS runners - she needs to run against College runners more often to get the best out of her. Should skip her Senior year of track in HS meets and go straight to College races only (as many as are available). Can do HS XC meets I guess.
The thumbnail for that video is interesting. I was near the finish line at Mt SAC when Sadie ran the DMR. Afterwards she put on a shirt which I thought was odd since it was pretty warm. I now realize she was just putting on a New Balance shirt to cover up her Ventura Nike singlet. Sadie is doing a good job with her New Balance NIL deal.
Gotta admit, I'm not a big fan of Engelhardt. She's a well-trained and highly-conditioned athlete, but not so talented. I think she'll gain weight, lose form, and slow down. That's what's happened to the girl who still holds the 1500m high school record, and I predicted the same thing for her. Engelhardt has no ability to switch gears and sprint. She just developed early and has more aerobic capacity than her competition at this point. Her advantages will disappear after high school.
I guess you need relevance in your life, thus your low I.Q. post (low, like 74). Have a good day. Love your flaps.

Blork1980 has a great take. For her sake let’s hope she proves everyone wrong

In what way is it a great take? She has no ability to switch gears? What happened when Lauren Gregory passed her with 300 to go at The Ten? What happened when Jane Hedengren passed her at the bell at Arcadia? 95% of her races we don't get to see if she has an extra gear because there isn't another athlete forcing her to use it.
Mary Cain ran 4:24 indoors in high school as a senior. 4:28 was from her junior year...still a ways to go to get the real high school record.
I've always wondered about that. The record is listed as 4:28.25 which she ran at the Millrose Games as a junior (Feb 2013). She ran 4:24.11 at the Boston Terrier Invitational as a senior (Jan 2014). Obviously, the reason it doesn't count as a record is because she had turned pro in November two months prior. However, she was still a high school student and I believe it should count as a high school record.
Maybe we should just do away with "high school" records and have age records, regardless of what grade the runner is in. After all, we have plenty of high schoolers (including Engelhardt) who are "semi-pro" due to their NIL deals. If being paid to run disqualifies Cain's time then all high schoolers with NIL deals should also be ineligible for records.
Sitting back and looking at the long history of female phenoms I can't say I get too excited
about any of them becoming the next mid distance or distance runner medal threat. For the most part these young kids will have already reached or nearly reached their lifetime performances before college. The all-time high school lists are littered with runners most of have never heard of. Granted there a few that compete well into college a few here and there that run professionally.
Being a top high school runner is better than never being at the top at any time.
Most of our future pros will likely be more like the Emma Coburns that never broke a 5 minute mile in high school.
I live 20 miles from stadium, and there is less wind today than normal.
I also have been checking AccuWeather all day about every hour for Walnut, Ca. The highest reading I have seen is 5MPH, with gusts of 9MPH. Most people would consider that effectively no wind. It was at 5/7 about the time of that race.
I was there. Yes, the wind was probably around 5 to 7 mph when Sadie ran. So some wind, but not too bad.
It was definitely a lot windier than that a few hours earlier. There is a bit of a wind tunnel effect where the stadium is located that wouldn't be picked up by a wind reading elsewhere in Walnut. Good thing that it mostly died down by the time that Sadie raced.

Sadie Engelhardt broke down her national outdoor record in the mile at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday in Walnut, California. Website: http://www.//milesplit.co...

The international standard of U18, U20, Senior, and Masters makes the most sense to me. Age records I am not a big fan of because they encourage training hard at a very young age, which can sometimes seem to stunt long-term progression. Off course it sometimes works out, but even Jakob didn't set his first age group record until he was what, 14? And didn't become a top pro until he was 17. U18 records are mostly run by 16-17yos, which I think is a fair age to be training seriously.
If you go by that standard, the U18 1500 record is 4:04.62, by Cain.
The U20 1500 record is 4:03.39, by Efraimson.
The U18 mile record is 4:28.25, by Cain.
The U20 mile record is 4:24.11, by Cain.
Obviously 1600 records are not really internationally accepted, but Wiley's 4:26 would be the U20 record. No idea who would have the U18 record to be honest. Sadie's 4:31 is a great time regardless, and puts her on the map as one of the fastest U20 Americans ever (not eligible for U18 though). A sub-4:03 time seems possible in 2024 or 2025 and would cement her as an all-timer. Let's hope she has a better professional career than the other high school record holders.
It’s crazy that Sadie’s private coach is on the Spectrum ( Matt Hammel). This should be a story for media. Good for him
Sadie picked NC State to get away from this crazy family. Her BF parents are cancer for Ventura’s team and causing big problems with in and lots of drama. Only one more year for this poor girl
3 national records and a US #1 for Ventura this weekend and Sadie committed to the top distance program in the country. Looks like a real mess at Ventura and for Sadie.
