Can't complain about the weather this year.
A touch too warm for me, but agree - overall not bad. Let's hope it the temps don't inch up.
Like I told you, it's not northwest, it's WNW. Big difference.
If it stays as predicted, it *will* be a tailwind, though not a huge one.
Looks like the forecast warmed up a bit overnight, but also the predicted wind is stronger and more westerly. Probably a little worse prognosis overall
I’m loving the forecast.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the temps because the dew point is low and it looks like there will be some clouds. And that more westerly wind means that there will be a bit of a cross-tailwind. A direct tailwind would make it feel warmer.
No complaints here.
Detailed hour-by-hour summary.
Actually, it looks like the predicted temps have stayed just about where they were (probably averaging just about 58-60 for elite race-time), and the winds have shifted a bit to the west --which, obviously, *helps* the runners.
No idea what you're talking about.
Good luck tomorrow everyone. One last weather related reminder, the dew points look very reasonable. Which is great of course, but does mean you may not notice how much you're actually sweating given it'll be evaporating off the skin quickly. So take some extra fluids even though you might not be drenched in sweat. Dousing the noggin will also be much more effective when the air is dry. Evaporation is your heat loss friend!
Sudden divergence in the forecasts this morning. National Weather Service saying temps might not even hit 60 on the course if you finish by 1:00. Meanwhile Weather Underground saying temps will hit 67 in Brookline at 1:00. I guess we’ll see.
The weather this year is perfect, anyone that says something about the weather is just making excuses at this point.
Women's pack is gonna explode spectacularly somewhere in mile 15-18.
This post didn't age well... I ran it today. And the weather was far from perfect. I don't do well in early season heat, I admit, but the temps were decent at 10 and climbed quickly. Sunny and warm. Humidity was low but the sun was hot. It was 68 degrees in Boston by a little after 1. Warm for this race. I know many who run well in the heat did well, but for those who don't, it was pretty rough.
No excuses for me I’m a pretty poor heat runner. The tailwind was not very strong. If you look now for wave 1 runners it was only 3-5mph throughout with 10mph gusts , as opposed to the 8-10mph with 20mph gusts as forecasted. And it was a sunny 60->67 with 47-51% dew point as opposed to the low-mid 40s forecasted early. So kinda depended on how good a heat runner you are most of all. The wind wasn’t big enough to carry anyone several minutes. Anecdotally it seems most runners in the 2:50-3:10 range I know struggled. Unsurprisingly the faster and fitter you get you can survive that heat a little better.
I am in the category you describe. The water was FLAT going through Ashland and wind was basically nothing at the start. Direct sunlight played a huge factor.. flash back a couple to few weeks ago was ripping 6:20s up the newton hills in training all winter no problem (because it was 20-36 degrees all Feb/March) and today I practically was walking up it like a pathetic failure. I finished but it was grueling and not a pretty sight. In hind sight I should have just readjusted from a 2:54 to 3:10 from the start but I was holding on to hope and crashed and burned big time.
I thought the weather was weird. when the sun was out and I was around others and didn’t feel the wind, it felt warm, not hot.
other times there was a cross breeze and the sun went behind a cloud and it was good conditions.
I ran conservative and tons of people passed me but the last 5 miles there was more carnage than most years I’ve run it. a lot of people were reduced to short shuffling and a lot of people walking.
there were only a few places were it felt like a good tail wind.
I noticed a good number of people were sweating a lot when they passed me.
there was one spot a kid was spraying people with a hose and a lot of people were thankful and went to get sprayed.
Zouhair Talbi already ranked 5 last year even beating Kipchoge.
With Othmane El Goumri we should have a good Olympic team this year.
You make a good point. The wind across lake cochituate and the highway is always brisk. I was expecting it coming across that 15k mark but it never came. A slight cross breeze at times but the air felt still for most the race.
