Wish I could be there to watch. My coach entered me in the two mile there in 1970 although I knew I wouldn't be competitive. Winning time then I think was 9:02. Arcadia was a really cool experience though.
Would be cool if a few of the east coast elite guys can get out there. Drew Griffith hasn't shown much interest in XC or indoors to travel outside of his region until the postseason, but maybe a few others can make it out there. Patrick Koon and Paul Bergeron were there last year. Id expect the top cali guys plus Simmons, Jourdon, Neil, etc. plus some 2025 kids like Tostenson and Recupero to make it a great race
I didn’t think any class would ever touch the 23’ class until this 24’ class said hold my beer. The only event that 24’ hasn’t really shown out like 23’ did was the mile. I know we have a big chunk of the season left but so far 24’ is crazy good in XC, 5K, 2mile, and 800m. What a year to be a distance fan and the 23’ class definitely set the tone last year.
The classes are constantly getting deeper. I will assume the 2028 class will be even better than this year. As time goes on more and more high schoolers go all in on running. Twenty years ago kids did multiple sports more often and didn't train year round as often. And fewer people knew how to do proper training until the internet took hold and more high school coaches were able to learn what real training is.
If they are running the 3200 which I believe they do here.. No one cares about the 3200M mark, just add your 3.1 or 3.2 whatever suits ya.
If you are in California and under the age of 60 then you only care about the 3200 and not the 2 mile.
Huh? What about the 1600m? The 3200 sucks, it can’t be directly compared to the 2-mile times run by the HS distance legends and it’s not run by any other country or at any other level.

Same for the 1600. Kids don't say I am running the "mile". They also don't care about distance legends when all their records have already been broken by kids in the last 5 years. If you are a coach and you are teaching them "mile" and "2 mile" conversions you need to move on.

The kids running the races don't care about comparing themselves to legends. Even if they did, the 3200m is comparable enough to the 2 mile. If a kid runs a 2 mile these days, the first question the other kids is "What does that convert to for 3200m?".
I ran the 2 mile in HS. But those days are long gone. We are running metric now. And HS is the only level smart enough to actual run full laps, like 4 and 8. None of this 3.X laps nonsense.

Then why do the fastest runners shoot for a 4-minute mile? Has anyone ever run a sub-4 1600m? In college, it’s either the 1500m or the mile. The 1600m is a crappy compromise and it’s only used at the HS level. It’s odd that Arcadia has mile races but still uses the 3200m.
Teaching someone the conversions shouldn’t take longer than about 2 minutes.

So you are talking about maybe ONE BOY in the country when referring to the 4-minute mile? That doesn't matter to 99.9999% of the kids.

Who are you? For sure, you’re one of the those that believes that “mile” means 1600m unless it’s stated as being “full”. Is your group of 99.9999% confused when they line up about 9 meters before the starting line in college?
44 dipped under 9:00 last year, which is the main reason most of these kids go. Doubt that number gets topped this year, but I bet Simmons betters the 9:34 he and Birnbaum went 1-2 with.
