Nico Young led Northern Arizona to the team title with his second place finish in the men's championship race at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour in Madison, Wis.
If Graham hadn't crushed everybody in the last 400m, everyone would be talking about what a great victory Nico had, what a resurgence, etc. He ran very well.
Ryan Schoppe's been a worthy investment for OSU. Graham Blanks obviously. Sprout was good as a frosh/soph but hasn't been in his past form since then. Methner's been decent, Daschbach hasn't done much.
It looked like Methner hobbled through the finish line gingerly at nuttycombe. Not sure how hurt he was, but was clearly limping bad.
I love how for once in the history of LetsRun, no one in this thread is hating on him. Everyone here seems in total agreement that he's a beast, has incredible consistency, is gutsy as hell, grinds his way to fast times and podium finishes despite lacking the kick, etc. Way to go guys

Yes, he was running fine (lost 15 places in last split but was 24th or so most of the race) and the moment he hit the finish line, had an instant reaction and hobbled away and wouldn’t put any weight on that foot. hope it isn’t as serious as it looked.
Heavy rain didn't slow down the action in the men's race at the 2023 Nuttycombe Invitational.Harvard junior Graham Blanks made the best of his third try at t...
Man I know he's good on the track but I really want to see him get in a marathon, I think the event would really suit him. Really think he could be another 2:06-2:07 guy if he switches to it soon after college
Nico will be a stud in the 10k.He's still not run a 10k yet. Remember he ran 13:11 at 19 years old. His Marathon will be better if he waits until his late 20's.
Agree his best distances will be 10k and up especially half or marathon. He does not have the leg speed of Grant or Luis to be competitive at shorter distances, but disciplined methodical form to hammer out punishing km after km. He will be great for US in these longer races like Mantz.

Better yet, none of his fans are making excuses for him. There’s no claim that he’s training through the meet or that he’s still recovering from the trauma of running track last spring.

That was a great season debut. He has had an outstanding college career. Most guys do nothing as freshmen in xc. He was winning races and finishing 4th at NCAA xc. He's remained at that level in place but gotten faster as the NCAA has gotten faster. The team's won NCAA xc each year so far with him. So, his career value at NAU will be incredible. But if he is to start winning major races, he'll need to be able to do one of two things, one, break away well before the kick begins, or two, alter his form to a style more suited to the kick, meaning a slight forward lean instead of straight up or leaning back a bit and keeping his hands lower, both things that Bosley does and that he does not (his hands rise up to throat level on each arm swing). The slight forward lean can be accomplished in part by shifting to a midfoot plant or even front foot for the sprint.

Nico fan here but your comment has historic merit.
Why are we pretending to know Nico's top speed? There is no indication he is any slower in the 100m than Fisher. Kicking is NOT the same as speed, remember Nordas kicking down most of the field to snag bronze?`
