He's a great runner. He was extremely fit as a high schooler, so he was much closer to his ceiling than most. But he's still improving and being consistent. That's a talent in and of itself.
Nico was so dominant in high school. Did anyone else pan out in the class of 20 besides Nico? Cole sprout? Graham was the same class but didn’t run as a freshman as Ivys canceled both seasons. I can’t think of anyone from that class that has been been better.
Ryan Schoppe's been a worthy investment for OSU. Graham Blanks obviously. Sprout was good as a frosh/soph but hasn't been in his past form since then. Methner's been decent, Daschbach hasn't done much.
I’ve noticed that, too, of course. But not AT ALL sure he can’t f-in win. Most consistent of the elites. Unreal effort every time. And second second second, as you say, is always to a different guy. He is ALWAYS in it. He’s big time under pressure. There were 10 guys all together yesterday with 500 to go and Nico beat all of them but one. Again, a different guy. Just an observation, he seemed very pleased when interviewed after. Mentioned season debut and all. Would not count him out next month at NCAAs. And, interesting note, if he returns next year he could be the only runner to be part of 5 NCAA cross country team titles.
Agree he did beat all but one and he is a really consistent runner. One of the best and most consistent Americans over the past few years. Seriously doubt he’s back next year. It’s time for the next chapter for Nico.
as a fan of his it's frustrating to see him constantly get 2nd, but NAU is all about team victories. they never talk individual performances or outcomes. as long as the team executes on the day then it's a win.
such a grinder. such a stud. but second second second etc etc. just can't f'in win. new chris derrick. what is it
Man I know he's good on the track but I really want to see him get in a marathon, I think the event would really suit him. Really think he could be another 2:06-2:07 guy if he switches to it soon after college
He’s such an incredible talent, but he shows why sprinting speed is so important at the NCAA level even in a distance race. Again and again he seems to get out kicked. He’s such an unselfish runner too so he never risks a blow up by going out too hard and dying but I wish he would race a bit more risky. When it comes down to a kick he seems to just to not have it. I would love to see this kid get a title, but in order to do that he can’t leave it with 400 to go. I think Nico needs to start making big moves 1200 meters out and slowly break the competition.

Nico will be a stud in the 10k.He's still not run a 10k yet. Remember he ran 13:11 at 19 years old. His Marathon will be better if he waits until his late 20's.
