Even if he retired, they must uphold the ban. He was in the testing pool; they can't turn a blind eye. Imagine they did and he decided to come out of retirement?
Sorry to all of you pro runners that are clean (if only a few). It must be a tough existence to constantly finish 5th-10th at important races, only to know that a few of the runners that beat you are cheating. What a crappy way to chase a dream. Sad for you, Ben True and other probable non-cheats.
Hassan doped after his career was over so you could argue that he gained no competitive advantage during his running career if you assume he was clean during that time. We can also assume he was tested repeatedly during his running career and he always came out squeaky clean, so the jury might have mixed feelings about this case and many still opine that Mead is a fine gentleman, despite this (possible) career ending blip in his record.
Rojo I expect that you guys will go to bat for Hassan to defend him as you did for Shelby Houlihan. Surely Hassan is innocent and he never knowingly took any PEDs. Will you be looking into this and attempting to prove his innocence here?
One difference is, Hassan is admitting it and Shelby didn't. I'm sure if Hassan vociferously claimed innocence and had what originally appeared, on the surface, as possibly being circumstantial, the BroJo's would go to bat for him. BUT, Hassan took the three year ban by admitting he doped. So for sure he doped. Shelby's situation is more shameful, but it was at least possible, if not really plausible, that she had unfortunate circumstances.
Innocent people admit to crimes much more often than most people realize. Hassan’s admission means virtually nothing. This merits more investigation. Rekrunner have you been sleeping on the job? Rojo please look into Hassan’s situation. I have admitted to being an idiot a few times despite virtually incontrovertible evidence to the contrary.

Sure that is possible. Seems far more likely he started doping early on and all those tests just prove how easy they are to beat.
Good to see a cheater get caught, but this was not the “big name” I was expecting today. When are we going to get the big news many of us are waiting for?
What? Drugs aren't really "for" certain sports, they just do certain things. Casual and amateur PED use is way more rampant in the strength/lifting/bodybuilding world than the running world. So SARMs have an association with lifters and body builders because they buy them more. That doesn't mean it's "for" them though.
I thought we hashed this out when Shelby got caught. Lots of people scratching their heads like "Why would a distance athlete take something anabolic?" Because it helps them recover and makes them stronger.
Cool. Thanks for the response, FartKing69. I didn't closely follow the Shelby drama (especially initially), and I'm clearly not up-to-date on current best practices for PEDs. I was thinking that if it was just a substance that helps add bulk (just as an example), then the story of him essentially retiring in the Spring and now wanting to not be quite so light makes sense. However, being that it provides a benefit to distance running (and especially if others are doing this substance), then I would lean back to the idea that he's probably been a doper for some time.
Someone else mentioned that he's been tested like 10 times in the last couple of years. Is this not a lot compared to others? It seems like a lot to me, but of course, I know nothing about this.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but respect to him by not making a meal out of it
no press conferences no bogus go fund mes no interviews lamenting about victimhood. Accept your ban
i just wish he or one of these guys would tell the truth
yeah, still waiting for a runner or cyclist to just come out and say, "we pretty much all do it"
I think this is what this points towards and some honesty would be nice. It must be tough though when the culture is so dirty and a lot of your friends are still actively competing. Looking at former cycling dopers like Tyler Hamilton and Floyd Landis, the admission makes them much more sympathetic and brings some understanding but they had to wait until way later to break the Omerta.
Hassan Mead, Minnesota legend. Pity his career had to end this way.
Don't you have any sympathy for the clean runners he cheated? Not to mention the fans, most of whom don't want to see fake runners running fake times.
What clean runner did Hassan cheat? Your question assumes that Hassan has been doping for quite some time (your main evidence is that he is not white) and that his competitors are not doping. You assume to know so much yet you know so little.

A cheater is afforded no such luxury. You think he will tell us he cheated but didn't compete at all. F him.

You are not very bright. These guys are not cheating. They are leveling the playing field.
