- if possible work out with others. If not make sure someone knows where you are and how long it should take and even be back. - did you have your phone with you. I know police stretched right now but have someone on call that you could have called to come get to the track.
My phone was in my sports bag that I just left on the side of the track. Way too annoying to run with while holding it and since there weren’t many people I didn’t worry about it being stolen but going forward it seems important to be holding it
If this is true, report it, there may be video footage of the person to and from the point of contact at the track. It might give important clues to other problems. To not do this is a complete failure of humaneness.
That's honestly terrifying. Where are you located? Maybe you can run with a club team, and other runners in that town/city can keep an eye out for this creeper. I'd gladly deck him for you.
I've been a female runner long enough to believe you and unfortunately this probably won't be the last time you encounter a creeper. I truly believe we have a sixth sense (intuition) and that you were not overreacting. I'll admit I used to be much more naive when I was a teen and it annoyed me that my dad would come to the track with me or my mom would follow me in her truck if I was running by myself. Now that I'm an adult with more creeper experience plus a slight obsession with true crime, I totally get it.
If you're training alone because it's summer, find a local running club. You can actually learn a lot from other runners who aren't your age and could make some friends outside of your regular peer group.
The more I reflect on it the more I do know that I was not over reacting and this could have ended so much worse. The high school I was running at is close to my gym, but I did not want to use the treadmill since it messes with my stride, but I’m probably just going to suck it up from now on. I agree with everyone encouraging me to report it and I will today. The fact that he was wearing a mask and gloves is even more disturbing because that intentionally prevents anyone from being able to identify him based on features.
safety is usually a huge consideration for me in terms of where and when I run, I typically felt like the track is a safe place especially at the hour I went, but I guess not.
I live in DC and run at a track in the middle of the city once a week. Once there was a guy walking (stomping) around the track with a hammer in his hand, muttering to himself, and it was realllllll weird. everyone else cleared out pretty quick, including me. not today, satan

Ha, let me guess...Banneker?
I've seen some bizarre behavior there.
