Her amazing XC season when she ran 13:21 at Vanny, it was obvious she was going to bring a whole other level of game to the college running scene. HS guys running times in that ball park were generally in the 9:20s-9:30s for 3200.
All-time girls HS Van Cortlandt list: she's off the charts!
NC State Sophomore Katelyn Tuohy takes the race from the start to finish, splits 48 67 66 63 to win the ACC 1500m title!! A 6-second PR! Katelyn doubled back...
I never remember Touhy's form looking as good as it did in that 1500 final. Not that it was ever that bad, but is completely evened out , very efficient now.

I see the key to that form being the shoulders, the development of which goes back to the North Rockland weight/cross training. The strong shoulders stabilize the upper body and allow the arms to evenly pump like steam locomotive connecting rods.
At this point, I say a) let Henes and her do whatever the hell they want.
But I'd love to see them pull an Athing Mu and run the 1500 at NCAAs and then 5000 at USAs although I guess she could do 1500/5000 at NCAAs. Or hell just skip USAs.
And I really hope she doesn't go pro this summer. She's THRIVING in college. Still has a lot to accomplish (XC title is the big gone). If i was her, I'd run NCAAs through 2023 NCAA xc, then go pro so she could focus on Pairs 2024.
There's plenty of things to accomplish at the NCAA level and if you hold out until the Olympic year the dollars are bigger so you recoup some of the cash you miss out on by not going pro now.
If she wants to skip USAs this year, I'm fine with that as well. She's had an amazing year. I'd be tempted to end on a high note versus extending her season through July unless that's what she really wants. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you have to. Would you rather end on a high note of winning NCAAs versus getting obliterated at Worlds? It's kind of like how MLB teams keep super studs in the minors until they are super ready.
Agree on point letting the people who know her best decide what to do at NCAA's. But no double. Once NCAA is over decide whether to run the 5,000 at USA's. But that is it. Shut down and then start getting ready for XC.
It sounds like they have already decided on the 5,000 and for whatever my opinion is worth that seems right. In a tactical 1500 she could get boxed in and not have time to get out and kick hard enough. In a fast 1500 she of course would be fine, but how often are the races fast? In either a tactical or fast 5000 she should do fine.
Sam Bush looks like a title contender... When do we find out who is running which events for sure???
She is a good runner with a good kick, but I don't know if I would go as far as to call her a title contender. I haven't seen anything to suggest that she could run a 4:06 1500 or a 15:14 5000. She had a great kick in a flat race, but 15:46 is unlikely to win an NCAA title. That is just my opinion.
katelyn losing this acc 5000m means she will not lose the next ones, i get the pattern now
I hope you are right. I really want her to win the NCAA title this year. I wonder if her running the 5K yesterday did more harm than good. She had such a high with the 1500 win, and she has had such a good season. It seems like terrible timing to have a bad race and loss as the final note going into regionals. I hope that doesn't mess with her head.
