Author Seeks 1970s UTEP runners, fans, and competitors
An author researching a new book on track and field in the 1970s for Random House is seeking former athletes who ran under Coach Ted Banks at UTEP from 1973 to 1981, as well as anyone who raced against or watched those athletes compete.
Journalist Noah Gallagher Shannon is writing a general-interest history of track and field in the 1970s, focusing on collegiate distance running and UTEP. Noah is interested in the experiences of those who ran under Ted Banks at UTEP or against his runners from 1973 to 1981. He’s also looking to understand what the program was like to compete against, and is eager to speak with anyone who knew Ted Banks or any of his athletes or assistant coaches.
If you or anyone you know competed for or against UTEP, or knew or watched them race, Noah asks you to please get in touch. You can reach him at
