The American system is terrible when you account for population. All the pros are split up, no consistency in the NCAA or sub elite. We're overall awful in depth in distance. Is the American system terrible when you account for population? We have tons of guys who for the D1 level are 'scrubs,' running 13:50s. Their names aren't even mentioned here. How many are running 12:50 three years later?
None, ever. But that's what Katir just did. A 13:50 guy at 20 just ran 12:50. Oh, and then he runs the even better performance of 3:28. Yet, he had never, ever even been on the radar of anyone in the 1500m before.
