I geek out a little on running shoes and read a lot of reviews, but it's a little disappointing when you realize most of these reviewers run at like 9:30-10:00 min/mile paces, or talk about how the shoe loves to go fast and how good it felt to go sub-8. Not trying to be mean, just curious. Plus, I realize then that the review itself probably doesn't apply to me (and I'm not a fast runner by any means). It's strange though that all these guys running 60-80 mile weeks and trying out all these shoes aren't actually very good runners.
This reminds me how when I learned that the majority of mice used for clinical trials have excessively long telomeres because that strain is easy to breed and control. Obviously that poses how relevant CTs are for humans with normal telomeres. I guess reviews for shoes are similarly not geared to more serious runners. It's just strange. Self-selection? Something about constantly rotating shoes?
