What are the best places in the UK to live for trail running?
What are the best places in the UK to live for trail running?
Probably up north tbf
But if you're gonna be in the UK it seems a shame not to live near the best city in the world.
So I'd recommend Guildford. Loads of hilly and beautiful trails to the south, yet under an hour to London

Lake District if you want decent hills,Wales for a quieter area,Peak District is nice also.
I’d echo Birkoboy, the Lake District is probably best, you can be well connected with the rest of the UK especially if near Kendal by rail or car. Otherwise if being near cities.etc doesn’t matter anywhere in the Scottish Highlands would be the best place of any for trails/mountains
Snowdonia

England is so tiny that everywhere is close to London. Some of my poorer neighbors have ranches larger than England. If you are going to England be sure to pack toothbrushes and toothpaste as they are not hot selling items there. Hire a translator because you will not be able to understand whatever language the locals are attempting to speak. Pack a raincoat and an umbrella. Also, England is a great place to lose some weight because the food is unspeakable.
Depends how much you like hills... I live in the Peaks and miss being able to have just a nice flat run every so often. Does give you calves of steel though.
I’m obsessed with hills... I can’t drive yet so I guess I can’t be too remote

I would love to get to know some of your poorer neighbors.
Up North. North York, Moors, Yorkshire Dales, Weardale/Teesdale, Lake District, Cheviots all offer good running, lots of clubs and races galore. Peak District, too. There could well be some action in Cornwall, too, but I'm too lazy to investigate. Google "Fell running" for whichever area you're interested in
On a trail.

England only (not the UK) is a bit bigger than the state of Mississippi.
What are the names of these ranches?
Interestingly the largest ranch in the USA has a Wikipedia page, it is a bit bigger than 800 square miles.

Not even close. Even Texas has bigger ranches than Waggoner - the King Ranch is 1300 square miles.
Scotland,thank me later..

We call it "cross country". Trail running , like renaming Veterans to Masters, is American marketing. And trails are called "footpaths".
Have to be careful in the UK as “trail running” is often confused with “fell running” which is an entirely different type of running. Trail running tends to be on woodland paths etc while fell running takes lines across hills, may be trodden but won’t be anything near a path!!
I’ve been to the US and in the national parks etc all the trails are well marked and maintained. It’s not really like this in the UK and it can be a lot more remote.
I’d suggest Frodsham/Helsby as they are quite nice places to live and the trails are quite well maintained (eg Sandstone Trail). Also have a good running club nearby.
Sorry, I should have been clear. I love fell running. Trail running also fine.
Fell running specifically.
Anywhere with mountains.
Lake District
Scottish Highlands
North Wales
South Wales
I have done a fell race in the Peak District but that was more like trail in that there was no proper technical downhill.
