Bunch of 25 MPW people with 22min 5k prs running every easy run at 7 min pace. And they all compliment each other for how fast they are every day and probably look down on actual fast runners who take easy days slowly.

i really try to convince my friends not to use strava but its the cool thing for them I guess
I know they actively look into every run someone does, so watch out for the strava hawks
this isnt actually a thing
You choose who you follow. If you're following 22 minute 5K runners, that's on you. Follow and unfollow whoever you want.

Strava is an online training log. I can see how much I've run, I can put notes in after my workouts, I can look back at how fast I did my previous workouts. I can compare one race course to another to judge how good a certain performance of mine was. I can average up all of the segments of a fartlek to make sure I was actually going the right paces. Strava is great. If it effects how you train in a negative way then that's on you.
Training log. I love looking back at what I was doing 1 year ago today when I do workouts. I also use it to learn from others.

Strava is nothing to me. I don't care what other people run and I have no need to share my runs.
But it seems to me that you probably are paying attention to the wrong people on Strava.

This is the same kind of person who gets mad they allow charity runners at Boston.
I only use it cause my team does. Can’t stand the dudes who type a whole paragraph after every run or log an evening walk with their dog

This.
Also, as others have pointed out, if you follow a variety of good runners, you can really learn a lot about training by seeing what they actually do day in and day out. There are a lot of ways to structure your runs and workouts, and looking at the training of fast people that I also get to run with on occasion has allowed me to fine tune my own approach to training. I'm not sure I actually would have gotten to where I am without Strava.
I only post my afternoon workouts so I look like I'm a stud off low mileage
I upload my bike segments as runs so actual fast runners go home devastated.
15 minute 5k? Nice job, you're amazing. I covered the segment w/unlimited sub 3:00 miles, uphill. Your welcome

But if they're 25 mpw people with 22min 5k PRs, doesn't that mean they're running hard every run at 7min pace, not easy as you say?
the 20-23min 5k guy who does all of his runs at 7 minutes for strava kudos is a boogeyman concept
if you guys want a "runs for likes" trope to complain about that actually exists, it's the guys who run 25 miles a week, most of that mileage being a 14 mile long run at an absolutely crawling pace.
if you have a hobbyjogger following on strava, i guarantee that a double digit run at 12:40 pace will get 6x the likes of a 3 mile run at 7:30 pace.
yea I regularly manicure my feed to get rid of obnoxious people (like you are describing) and follow the ones that actually train. Segments, KOMs, challenges, all of that crap is useless. I get a good benefit at finding out what you shouldn't do as well. It's so easy to see how and why someone got hurt when looking at their dumb training.
I used to think it couldn't get any worse than 'kudos'. Then they came up with 'local legends'.
It's a tool to keep track of running, cycling, etc. If you have the Elevate extension for Chrome, it's even better.
Sometimes the various clubs will send you free stuff or discounts just for doing something you were going to do anyway.
I have it synced to Garmin Connect and I maintain a pen & journal log as well.
I enjoy seeing how my friends from around the country run. It’s cool to compare my training to peers of my ability as well as it’s a good way for me and my dad to stay in touch because our main form of interaction revolves around our training so I greatly appreciate that aspect as well.
Strava is the bread, and segments are the butter to my training. I live in a town that has 4 colleges within a 1-5mile radius. Strava allows us to see some of their training, and we actually have a lot of fun chasing segments, especially on other campuses. You gotta love when 1 segment is getting broken by 3-5times a week!
