Dropped out at 8k.
I understand that he was designated as the pacer, but he could have secured an additional Olympic standard, found himself a spot in the all-time top 10 US, and helped his overall brand.
Thoughts? Anyone with more knowledge on the situation?

Why on earth did Sean McGorty not finish the 10k last night?

Maybe he was too tired? Lol -
I agree. Probably felt too tired and went with the plan but dropping out when in the lead says he could go 1 more lap and drop back to 5th to try. Worst case is you drop out then. Atkin did it on tired legs.

Hahaha sure, that’s probably the most likely answer. He’s never run a 10k so it was all new territory for him.
That said, from what I saw, he looked pretty strong when he stepped off.
More than anything, I feel for the guy. It seems like he’s America’s forgotten young stud. -
His “brand”?
Wtf is wrong with you, dude? -

Except he's likely to win the US 5000m Trials. Only Lomong has a better shot. No one running that race is forgetting about Mcgorty. -

Do you live in the real world?
Grant and Sean had nearly identical resumes up until this point. Who’s brand grew yesterday? I see one name and face all over the boards today. It’s Grants.
Besides, when your contract is up, having an all time 10k result is significantly better than no 10k result.
In this low paying, low exposure sport, you have to capitalize whenever you can. -

His pr is 13:11 from a time trial. I would say the 5000m at the trials is actually pretty open. There are lots of guys in that range or capable of that who might decide to move into the 5000m from a different event. Jager, some of the recent 3:50 college kids, etc are all capable of mixing it up if the best of the field isn't in the 13 flat range.
Then don't forget you've got guys like kimcaide with a sub 13 pr (also a time trial) who might decide to jump into it. -
He will win the US Olympic trials in the steeple and compete in the Olympics in that event.
He will make the Olympic standard in the 5k and 1500m as well but focus on the steeple.
McGorty’s best is yet to come and for several more years.
All the guys in BTC are amazing athletes and great role models for the sport.
Pretty sure there has never been a professional club with combined athletic and academic success like BTC. The women and men’s team must be a pleasure to coach based on those two important traits. -

Getting a bachelors degree is a lofty level of academic success? You make it sound like they're all in PhD programs or something. Don't forget there have been runners at the top level who were also going to medical school, vet school, doing PhD programs, etc. I'm not aware of any in BTC. It is a solid group, but lets not get carried away. -

5 Stanford degrees.
1 Harvard degree.
Those are two of the most highly selective and ranked universities in the world. -

Not highly selective if you're a scholarship athlete (academically at least) -

*Jerry Seinfeld voice* I don't think you do...
He had zero chance of running a top-10 US time, let alone hitting the Olympic auto standard which would have required him to maintain the same pace without slowing down. -

What u must understand is they are following the plan. Most likely the options for McGorty are 1500/5000m qualifier. He needs qualifying times for both of those distances. McGorty is not a 10k guy. Fisher is a 5k/10k guy. I see Fisher running 1500s and 3000m to prepare for the longer distances

I should have just added a lap when I ran the 600 in college for a shot at 1:50.

How, exactly, did you determine that 'McGorty's not a 10K guy?'
He was very close to Grant in Cross, and they've got identical PRs at1500, 3000 and 5000.
What evidence leads you to the brilliant conclusion that he's any less a '10K guy' than Grant is? -
don't forget Mo Ahmed paced that 5000m at Nike HQ to 4.6km
Maybe Jerry has plans he's not letting you in on...... -
Not saying he can’t be a 10k guy. I think they are splitting the Americans in Bowerman so they won’t just be beating each other up. Way more guys in the mix for the 5k than the 10k. My guess is McGorty probably will do the 10 at Stanford possibly and Fisher the 5 there. Just a guess in my part I don’t have any inside knowledge

What was your time in the 600?
