A sub-3:51 miler &/or 1500m equivalent will be an athlete capable of (46.25 to 49.75) 400 metres at peak 1500m fitness. There are some elite 10000m athletes capable of sub-49 400m, but that is rare. Most sub-3:51 milers or 1500m equivalent athletes will not be great 10000m athletes.
OK and yet that is not relevant or likely even correct. Both of these 3:50 milers can probably run 28:00 for 10000m which makes them contenders.
Don't be dumb, Cooper ran 13:17 already and could likely run atleast 13:10 right now, he was also 6th in 2019 and has made huge jumps since. Cooper is probably a 27:20 guy and would be the favorite to win NCAA XC

You idiot I was correcting the clown who said these 3:50 milers are unlikely to be cross country contenders. Cooper likely CANNOT run 27:20 now but I would not be surprised if he could run 27:40 now.

C.T. would be as big a fool as you are O.P. if C.T. logs 150 miles a week over the summer attempting to prove you correct. Worry about your own running. C.T. is not going to elope and marry you silly fan boy.

You were shown to be a fool and now you are even worse. I am no fan boy. I do not think Cooper Teare is a miler either. He likely will never break 1:47 for 800m. The shoes are a factor and the faster indoor tracks.
...and isn’t Hocker the 2018 FL champion who recently improved his 3000m PB to 7:46?
You’re totally
Not being sarcastic

One would think these great 3:50 milers would have a chance to win NCAA Cross Country. Or at least place top 10.
More than "one" would think it no doubt, but many, many milers with this type of speed don't have the strength to go the distance in CC. Or maybe it's because they simply don't need to? Either way, nothing wrong with having jets so long as you have the strength to back them up. Definitely not mutually exclusive.
Lagat, Sullivan and Falcon all were top 10 guys (or champs) and close to 3:50 or equivalent.

Kennedy was able and Webb wasn't too shabby.
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned this yet but Rupp and Cheserek both went on to be sub 3:51 indoors for the mile and both have Div 1 national titles in XC. Lagat was close. I’m convinced Mark Carroll would have won it the year he was injured. All of these guys were great milers.
On the world scale Bekele dominated XC for years and he was 3:49 indoors for the mile.
Whoops, I read things wrong about Bekele. His focus obviously was not the mile. He did not run under 4, however his 2000 meter time puts him at a pace he sustained longer than a mile at 3:53.
If one more person talks about magic spikes..wave lights or fast tracks..I'm gonna loose it! We are finally starting to see American distance runners make strides and ppl wanna trash there accomplishments. Can it be that they are racing less and training more? Maybe they are actually talented? For once cant we just look at a great running feat without being a hater smh.

Many of us do not consider conveying reality to make us haters. Only soft people do. These are great performances BUT the shoes matter. So does the fast indoor track. This is not hating. It is reality. You should not need to be educated about this but obviously you have not learned this.
Teare and Hocker will place top 10. They’re in 1600m shape though, not 10000m shape. There’s some translation, the mile is like 80% aerobic, 10k is like 90%.
What would you have them do create a truly satisfying result for you?

Two completely different events. Hard to have both great speed and endurance.
Oh really. If you are an endurance based 3:50 miler, which these guys are, they likely can both run around 13:20 or faster. They can place high in a 10000m cross country race.
13:20 is an insane time, would be a u-20 US record by 5 seconds.
a 350 miler would be devastated by a 349 miler! No chance at theNCAA xc for the 350 guy, might not make it out of conference

I'm convinced this has to be a troll at this point. Cole Hocker just broke the indoor U20 WORLD record by 5 seconds. In a mile. 13:20 is not an insane time when you're talking about 3:50 milers. Cooper Teare has already run 13:17, and Hocker ran 13:30 in a tactical race on the same time. I have zero doubt both these guys could crush 13:20. I wouldn't be surprised if they both hit the 13:13.5 Olympic A Standard this spring/summer.
He isn't U20.
