...or go to a D3 team with really good men AND women teams.
THE TEAM HAS TO BE GOOD. I get that CC and Track are basically individual sports, but you want to be surrounded by talent. I wasn't and I know that this negatively affected my running. It is ultimately my fault for not running more and working harder. I'm not making excuses.I am warning you to avoid environments where you will not be pushed.
Here's some things you WON'T run into at a D1 or D2 school:
-running only 35-40 mpw "to avoid injuries" because there's only 6 guys on your XC team and one of them is fat.
-half your team vocally dreading every meet, afraid to race because they've been slacking.
-nobody joining you for the shakeout on meet day
-very low expectations from coaches, teammates, and yourself. (ex. winning with times that won't win HS state meets and thinking it's fast)
-everybody substituting normal runs for long runs
-everybody skipping cooldowns
-everybody running half-warmups because they are so out of shape that a 2-3 mile warm-up will hurt their race
-mental blocks, excuses because you're in D3. (D1 runner are not Gods, and you have no excuse to be ridiculously outworked and outperformed by guys with marginally more talent than you.)
-low mileage. Sorry, but if you aren't at least 50mpw most of the year, you leave basic fitness off the table.
Anyways, that's my rant.
