There's no reason that video games should be considered a sport. Even if the video game is of a sport like FIFA soccer or NFL football
Already tested in 2018 https://esports.inquirer.net/4377/esports-now-recognized-as-2nd-level-olympic-sport
And the competition that was held: https://www.pcgamer.com/scarlett-wins-intels-pre-winter-olympics-2018-starcraft-2-event/
One problem is which game is most popular tends to change with some frequency. How many games are we talking? One game or a decathlon?
I have no problem having e sports in the Olympics, but it’s a logistical nightmare. What games do you put in? Do you put in the most popular at the time? Or the most competitive? Do they rotate out based on popularity, at one point Dota was the most popular game in the world, now it’s league of legends. With competitive esports over various titles and genres what ones do you pick to put in?
Actually, after careful thinking, I've changed my mind some...
DDR could be an Olympic sport.
One easily can burn 150-250 calories in 1 minute and 30 seconds on Max 300 or the Legend of Max.
Yep. I support that.
PR: B on Heavy level 8 foot Holic
C on Legend of Max (9 foot)
This would work for Gen X
One day when we’re dead.
I'm not sure e-sport should want to be in the Olympics since it's a dated concept to begin with.
Remember, it's from back when it could basically only be hosted with that type of four year intervalls because travel to and from took so much time. That's not the case any more, in most of the major sports the world elite can get together anywhere on the globe several times a month should they want to.
Also, the up-front pre-costs for one single city of applying and then hosting are so big that after Tokyo (assuming that even happens in 2021 as Covid still ravages) it will be less and less likely for democratic nations to find one willing to take it on.
Also I predict we'll see some big stars in various sports to make excuses already this year, for not wanting to mingle in the germpool of 15000 athletes and as many auxiliaries. And that will be the beginning on the end.
Yeah it’s not a sport. Should not be treated as one.
