Bravo man, this was an awesome post! You’re spot on but so many people will disagree and it’s sad. But what goes around comes around man this usually doesn’t end well.

This lawsuit happened. But I think he only won because the head coach explicitly said in writing he was not being considered because he was a male. Pole vault coach for Iowa some years back I think.
Interesting. None of you seem all that upset when some white dude with only a GA background gets a position. Considering where she coached this could be a huge pick up for Minot. Just because you’re not willing to volunteer to build your résumé doesn’t mean you should crap all over someone that’s willing to do the sacrifice!

It's rare for "some white dude with only a GA background" to get a position, much less a head coaching or director position. It is common now for a female with only some GA or Volunteer experience, or even in a number of cases, with NO coaching experience at all, to get positions, often head coaching and director positions, often even at NCAA I and even Power Five schools. So either all the applicants had equal or lesser experience to the person with little to no experience, or they hired based on gender and/or race, and disregarded the applicants that were more qualified because they weren't women or minorities. It seems highly unlikely that in position after position they did not receive any highly qualified candidates and had to choose the best of a bunch of unqualified candidates.
Also, my post wasn't specific to the Minot hire.
I'll add an example. Right now Rhonda Riley is without a coaching job. If Rhonda was hired at any school in the country to be the Head Coach and or Director of a program, it would be completely justified. Her resume, qualifications, and experience are in the upper tier. She has been successful and has been successful in Power Five positions. When she is hired again, it will be completely justified and while it still could be based partially on gender, it wouldn't matter because there would be no clear indication that the hire was for that reason. She is a highly experienced and qualified candidate, period.
And to be clear, I am not in favor of or, nor justifying, a school hiring an unqualified white male. That is equally outrageous. Which is my point. NOBODY should be hired based on gender, race, sexual orientation. EVERYONE should be hired based on talent, skill, experience and other qualifications that are relevant to doing an amazing job IN the job. EVERYONE should be considered equal in terms of being a human, without regard to gender, race, sexual orientation, etc.
This hire is fine… anyone who is not ok with it should try harder or be better connected! There are so many things that matter more than “experience” like it’s nice to have a young coach who can relate to recruits, it’s nice to have a both females and males on a coaching staff, it’s also nice to give a young coach a chance to develop and something a lot of y’all don’t think about is the other coaches on staff spend lots of time together and it is very important to find a cool person people you like.
Again if you are not getting a job that sucks but start networking, in track like life it’s not what you know but who you know.
Trever Dunbar... look it up. New assistant at Virgina has never coached.

He's definitely coached...lol This whole idea that if you aren't the head coach then you're just a clipboard holder is very clueless and proves that a lot of you guys don't know what it's like to actually work on a division one squad. Every program is different of course, but a volunteer assistant at one school might be recruiting while another volunteer assistant might just be showing up for practice each day. You just never know. Obviously when someone gets hired they get to discuss their background and their employer gets to decide if they have the qualifications. In this case they decided Trevor has coached and coached enough to justify hiring. What do we know here on a message board?

Minot State Hire

I don't think this is the hire you think it is. If you read the article, she was hired by Director of Track and Field Mark Del Monaco. Mark is the distance coach at Minot, and it looks like he was recently promoted to the Director title.

Looks like Loyola (Chicago) head job is open per the head coaches Twitter account.
What happened? Zero facilities but they fielded some solid teams.
bump
anyone know the back story here?
Bob Thurnhoffer is beloved by his team and in the Chicago area
considering complete lack of facilities they competed at a pretty decent level
recall him rolling out an artificial running surface so the team could run around the BB facility on a regular basis
On Saturday, Rutgers’ Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Bob Farrell announced the promotion of assistant coach Matthew Jelley to head cross country coach and associate head coach for track and field. His duties will focus on the men’s and women’s long distance runners for both programs. He replaces longtime coach Mike Mulqueen who recently retired after four decades at Rutgers.
I completely agree! To be fair I think this girl has volunteered and worked enough to garner getting the position but I know exactly what you’re talking about. I remember Notre dame not long ago hired a female with damn near no experience. The worse is when they’re only experience is AS AN ATHLETE!! Like they were competing the year before now all of sudden there the next assistant at a D1 or even a P5 position. Then you wonder why the team ends up sucking.. it’s ridiculous. Just your time as an athlete is NOT coaching experience!
Angela Reckart the new head XC coach at Duke. Adam Cooke will be assistant distance coach.

Going for the all Tom’s River coaching staff?
Wow! It is true. PSU already scrubbed her off the site!
My gosh, it is a D2 coaching job in North Dakota. Congrats to her and I wish her all the best. Dorks on this board act like it was a P5 job. If you applied for a D2 job in North Dakota and were passed up, look in the mirror and improve yourself. Most likely it is not because you are white, black, male, female or whatever ....
It amazes me some of the asses on this board. This board is for everyone interested in coaching at all levels! Just bc you think you could have gotten the ND job you mention does not mean you could, nor does it not mean that it's not someone else's dream job! It is not all about DI! There are Thousands of coaches in xc and track at the college level around the country and a small percentage of them are at a DI school! There is many coaches that have no desire to ever coach on the D1 level. So get over yourself and your D1 attitude.
