Please do not confuse the excitement now being expressed by highly educated African-Americans who work for major news media corporations with the way blue collar African Americans feel about Kamala Harris. Obama, mainly due to Michelle Robinson-Obama was able to appeal to bourgeois African-Americans and blue collar African-Americans. Remember, Kamala Harris dropped out before Iowa Caucus and before New Hampshire Primary. If Kamala Harris had the ability to connect with blue collar African-Americans, she would have made it through at least Super Tuesday. Kamala Harris, as a prosecutor and as CA Attorney General never tried to connect with blue collar African Americans. All of a sudden now, over the next 80 plus days, Kamala Harris is going to connect with blue collar Black people in U.S? Do not count on this helping Biden with Black people.
I think Harris was selected precisely because she does not appeal to working class African-Americans. The Biden campaign is scared sh#tless of a repeat of the Nixon "law and order" campaign strategy. If Biden picked an African American candidate that was too far to the left, Trump would spend the next three months claiming that Biden was an antifa sympathizer who was going to ban the police. That is about the only effective move the Trump campaign could possibly have, especially if there are more police incidents leading up to the election.
That is not to say that Harris will piss off African American voters. She has been a leader on police reform issues and can talk the talk as well as anyone. But she cannot be attacked for being anti-cop because much of her career was being pretty darn pro-cop. I would rather a much more progressive VP as it is pretty much a given Biden will not be able to serve two terms. But the Biden team has been all about crushing the left wing of the party. So, with that given, the issue now is whether they will repeat the stupidity of the Clinton campaign and blow a very winnable election. Nominating Harris is a good sign that they won't do that this time around.
