Yes I'm willing to admit it seems to be hypocritical. In very few instances do I think it actually would be, though. The clock of eligibility is ticking while you're in school. The majority of Eyestone's older athletes (and other schools with LDS returned missionaries) spent two years doing something that is not very compatible with elite athletic training. Most familiar with the situation would probably agree it's a big risk to their athletic career. In the case of a few, the benefits of being a couple years older pays off by the time they get back in shape, if they do it fast enough to avoid getting cut from the team. I don't think that's the case for the majority of foreign athletes. The two situations seem more similar than they actually are.
