Well, I am a prolific writer. What can I say? I could have written just as much to express myself in response to this post, but cutting and pasting a proper response that I had written about a year ago on this very subject was easier than just doing it all over again. Some people will like to read these thoughts, and others can skip it. You don't have to read any of it. And there's no spamming here. Remember, I gave this book away for free last week, and about a thousand people got it. I think there are some good thoughts in it--or at least some pertinent thoughts--that I like to express as a runner. Get over it.

Legend has it that a long time ago, 1970s, Brooks wanted to name a shoe for a runner but because of amateurism rules they couldn't. They named it after his college instead. The huge best seller Brooks Villanova was almost the Brooks Liquori.

While it took Bob Kennedy years of getting old and slow to finally respect the "hobby joggers" and the people who are proud just to finish a marathon, let alone break 3 hours, some really good runners have more wisdom, even in their prime. Jordan Hasay, one of America's most promising women's distance runners, recently wrote in her blog:

"Everyone at road races always has a unique story and I’m looking forward to seeing these stories up close on the race course. It is these runners who simply run for the love of the sport that really inspire me and I know inspire so many others. I hope that my performances these next couple of races could also be an inspiration to everyone out there as I continue along my journey! Happy running and see you on the roads!!!"

That's the attitude that EVERY dedicated distance runner, regardless of talent level or performance record, should have toward their "brothers and sisters" in running. One of the things I really hate about some of the people on this forum is how they talk as if they've ever really accomplished anything and can now look down on and insult people who aren't really fast or simply aren't as fast as they once were. Some day, hopefully, people like that will grow up. One thing is for sure, though: you're going to know exactly how it feels to be older and slower someday, so you might as well wake up now.

Thanks for the article, Wejo. I really enjoyed reading about one of America's all-time greats and his return to the sport/activity we all love.

It's great to see Kennedy is running again. Who can forget sub 13? Or leading the Olympic 5000 with 2 laps to go? Just a great runner.
