I'm here thinking improving my form will make me a better runner, then I see guys like Kitata with that horrible form but running that fast. Would he be faster with better form? Does it even matter?
There are a lot of examples of top runners with horrible form, like Paula Radcliffe among others.
Good form is probably overrated.
I had a teammate in college, Mark Stickley, whose form was pretty weird - choppy little strides with very little bend in the knees, kinda shuffling along - when he was doing easy runs but when he cranked it up for workouts and races, it was a whole different story-really great form. He ran 43:19 at the Jacksonville River Run 15K in 1984 for 4th overall (1st non-African). I believe it was the 8th best American on all-time list at the time and a WR for 21 year-olds.

It only matters if you're getting injured. Paula Radcliffe puts gaps on everyone with that form.
Bad form can be overcome, but good form is probably not overrated, especially in the marathon. Kipchoge’s perfect form gives him a big advantage over a guy like Kitata everything else being equal (of course it’s not only form that separates them). Every bit of excess energy spent not prowling you forward is a hindrance to greatness. Obiri is up against this in the marathon. Gidey, on the other hand, perfect form.
Someone on my junior high track team in Wisconsin in the 1990s had perfect hurdles form, but he was slow as can be. Yet, because of his form AND because he was slow, the coaches loved him to demonstrate to others how to run the hurdles. This kid was like a slow motion film. Perfect form, but a last-place finisher. I'm sure he wouldn't have minded having awful form and fast times.
Huh? Two marathons under 2:07 on his resume -- one in 2021 (2:06:11) and one in 2022 (2:04:51), and you call him a "virtual no namer"? And, by the way (to MasterofNone and others), his name is DO Nascimento, not Nascimento.
Correct, I should have used "under the radar". The buzz around him was substantially lower than the Africans, heck, even Rupp. My apologies.
When they showed his thon PB at 2:04 around the 10k mark I kicked myself for forgetting this guy existed.
She was pacing her MasterCard teammate Matt James (from The Bachelor). She looked like she was out for a sunday jog while he was strugggglllinnngg
Presumably Fast Women realized the error of their ways, implying that Shalane Flanagan doesn’t know how to run a marathon; that tweet appears to have been deleted.

Yeah weird thing to tweet considering there’s also a ton of videos of them fully stopping at mile 8 for the “Mastercard mile” promo stuff and filming. Clearly time wasn’t the priority lol
40 year old female news anchor Ana Cabrera runs 2:57:11
I survived!!! And broke 3 hours (2:57:11 officially)! The crowd support was incredible, which led me to go out way too fast😉. Really had to dig deep. I’m so grateful for all of your support.🙏❤️ #TeamBeans (Thx @MarcReporting for the videography in the final half mile) pic.twitter.com/dLCVFL7C30
