Y’all really need to open your eyes and realize how many normal parents out there wouldn’t be flying their kid every weekend to literally run in circles. It’s preposterous and you couldn’t convince even pretty good HS runners parents for them to do that just so they could shave a few seconds off. It’s a major major privilege people aren’t acknowledging and the fact the Young’s don’t thank their parents is selfish af bc this wouldn't happen without them or the mentors/guidance of good teammates and incredible coaches. NP is selfish thanks to Aaron and these twins
Another way of looking at it is these three kids are saving their parents over 500k in college tuition by working their a*ses off on the track, so a little plane fare here and there in order to build the brand is easily worth it.

Who are you claiming is flying to meets every weekend? Do you have any evidence that the Youngs travel out of state to run more than any other top HS runners? In fact, since they are fortunate enough to have a lot of quality meets locally where they can compete against pros and college runners, they probably travel less than runners from say CO, who can't get that level of competition at home on a regular basis.
Looking at Lex’s outdoor season, the only outdoor meets he has run are Bob Larson, Bryan Clay and LA Grand Prix. These are all a relatively easy drive from his home. He did run NBN Indoors and USTAF XC, but who can really fault him for wanting to make a national team?
As far as Leo, he ran Sound Running, Rafer Johnson, Bryan Clay, Bob Larsen and LA Grand Prix. Again, these are all local meets involving no travel other than an hour drive or so.
All of the top guys in the 3200 at Arcadia flew in from different parts of the country but no one mentions that. I don’t know why there is this perception that the Youngs are crisscrossing the country for every race because they are not.
I find it offensive that a runner who is not on his HS team is credited with setting a HS record. Yes AW ran in a pro race, but he also ran in his team's races. He won state and national titles with his teammates. SB, Leo, Lex and Colin let their teammates down. Without the NP program and SB's charisma these are all 9-9:10 guys. Not on the team=no HSR. If you do not want to run on the team then run wherever and whenever. Just do not call it a HSR.
I thought it was 13:22? It was a headline on this site not too long ago.
Yea it is 13:22.99. First thing that comes up when you google is the older record of 13:31 though, so guessing they didnt remember the time and googled.
This is a great record. Look at the legends who have run 13:51 or better, Chris Derrick, Nico, Tyrone Gorze, Gerry Lindgren, Dathan Ritzenhein (3rd at World Jr XC that year), Rupp, Burns (fastest ever hs jr in the mile), and Lex. And a 45 minute drive from home is in reach of anyone in the United States.

Take that up with the CIF it’s not the kids’ fault
And hop off brosnan his “charisma” did not take 40 seconds off their 2 mile time
You know what, we should just do away with records unless they are performed in a vacuum.
Exactly right. The hate on this thread is out of control. Is it just that some people don’t like to see others succeed? I was wondering how to respond to it, but your post is perfect.
some of the hate comes from the idea that the youngs left the high school scene (arcadia 3200, cif races, etc) to race only pros and collegiate runners. some of the top runners are jealous because they can't get into those races. They may feel resentful to the youngs because the youngs don't give them the opportunity to compete against them. this is just my guess though there could be more too it

Mild to moderate criticism does not rise to the level of hatred. I am very happy about both Lex's and Leo's performances this weekend. But please do not equate disagreement or moderate criticism with something as intense and threatening as hate.
Physically, yes- mentally, no. The overwhelming majority of American kids today are weak and soft. Add in entitled and obese for the whole picture. Many of my American coworkers still have their phones, insurance, and car bills paid for by their parents. Some even still live with their parents to eat their food and pay no rent. This is not normal.

Besides, as anyone who has driven in the Los Angeles area knows, a 45 minute drive in L.A. traffic means that you were only 3 miles from your destination to begin with.
13:31-33 is their Junior class record equiv. I thought I saw a 13:46 or so for Sophomore age. U.S. is sort of a year behind comparably. You'd think 60 years after Lindgren's 13:44 we would at least have a 3:20 H.S. Senior by now, 13:30 17 year old and maybe a 13:45 or so 16 year old. Anyway good luck to them all. What is the 16 year old age record - anyone know? Probably sub 13:30.
