What's to stop, for example, a 38 year old guy from signing up for a qualifying race as a 45 year old and getting an extra 15 minutes added to their BQ time? Then signing up for Boston with this same age.
I'm thinking that we had to show ID at the Boston marathon expo but I'm thinking that was just to confirm your identity, not verify age.
Someone emailed me on that possibility today actually. It would be fairly easy for me to check. I have historical results from all marathons from 2014-2016 (all marathons from the qualifying window). I can match up name/city/age data from Boston against name/city age data from the other races and find discrepancies. Would have to weed through to confirm, but may be interesting to look at.
So if the guy signed up for all his preBoston races with the incorrect older age, it just might work...
