I goofed. drove up to Boston today and traffic was bad and no a/c in the car I borrowed Was sweating like a dog but kept drinking fluids so thought ok. Got to the hotel and felt the rash between my cheeks from sitting in sweat all drive. Took a shower and felt like on fire. All I have available is Vaseline which untried but I seem to be having a reaction to it as it just makes it worse and hurt. I have band aids, and talcum powder too but am just lost. What is fastest recovery for overbite? And what is best prevention for tomorrow? Right now I keep putting a cold compress from the mini fridge on for 5 minutes to stop the fire. I cannot believe I may have screwed myself like this. I do not want to be one of those bleeders that runs by Any been there done that help appreciated.

Dry is the key. Bring extra socks. Stick one in the affected area and throw out and switch every 5 miles. Will delay the pain and bleeding.
I pity you -
If you were competitive you could put gorilla glue on it. Will act as a skin until you finish. Preferably go to the drugstore and get some burn gel with topical analgesic. Put that on then bandage or gorilla glue. You should be able to run that way.
By the way you are gonna pay a heavy price for doing it this way. Can't just take off the gorilla glue. It has to wear off. Get creating burn gel. You will need it all week I bet -
Think about not running. Seriously.
-
Put a piece of tee shirt between your legs and over your cheeks then put on a string bikini. This will keep your cheeks from contacting each other.
Or maybe try coconut oil instead of vasoline -
Desiten diaper rash creme. Clears things up overnight. Your welcome
-
You are at a hotel so buy maxi pads. They will keep you dry and you can affix them as needed. Sounds crazy but it's your best best at this point
-
The pain you feel during the race will be nothing compared to what you feel on your drive back. Gonna get hotter all week. Your own personal hell coming.
-
Get a judo belt and crazy glue the ends to your butt cheeks. Then pull on the looped end until the cheeks are apart and tie an overhand knot.
That will permit air flow, sweat flow and any other kind of flow.
Your welcome. -
Find a drugstore. Buy diaper rash ointment and apply generously tonight. Shower in the morning before leaving for the race.
Also buy KY jelly or some type of personal lubricant. Right before the race, apply a massive glob of KY to the affected area. It will be enough to help you survive. -
Apply Neosporin tonight. Don't wear underwear or pants to bed, it will allow more air flow and healing. Tomorrow lather your cheeks up with petroleum jelly before the race. It is thicker than Vaseline and will create a barrier. Carry a zip lock bag with extra petroleum jelly so you can occasionally reapply in porta potties along the way.

Vaseline IS petroleum jelly. -
Diaper rash ointment is the best for tonight. Whatever you try tomorrow, carry extra with you. I don't think Vaseline will work for more than a few minutes.

Reapply in porta potties? I thought he was running the marathon not walking it. -

Tomorrow you will learn the true meaning of "butthurt". -
I think they are already aware of the true meaning

In Iraq on long deployments some of the spec ops guys used duct tape to cover chafing areas. Not a good long term approach but for the short term very effective. Like adding skin. shave first or you will hate yourself more.
In Iraq personnel had to go. Boston is not war Run at your own risk. No one is gonna care if you do or do not run because of chafing. Be smart -

Great work. Don't people running Boston need to be actual runners? Not lard butts? -
follow the tips in here and just suck it up. You will stop noticing the chafing after 30 mins or so, well it will be just a persistent nuisance. I've done 100+ mile weeks all summer in the heat and humidity of the south and can tell you, you will heal no matter how bad the chafing gets tomorrow. Consider not taking a shower (take a bath or sponge off) for a couple days.

Fascinating and weird. I truly have no idea what the OP and responders are talking about. Have run for 30+ years including in lots of heat. Not only has this never happened to me, I've never heard of it. Based on the flurry of responses, it sounds common.
What is the problem?
I have 3 kids and have changed lots of diapers and put lots of cream on diaper rash. Are we talking about diaper rash equivalent? Does that hurt to run?
