This is also pretty much bang on. Compare Aouita with Mo over 1500m, 3k, and 5k and you get 3:29 vs 3:28, 7:29 vs 7:32, 12:58 vs 12:53 and I think Mo could probably runner about 5s quicker over 5k then he has and over 3k he should be able to go quicker as well given his indoor & outdoor 2 mile time hints at about 7.27 for an outdoor 3k. If Hill could replicate that form in an ideal 5k should just be able to go under 13.

I don't think the 7:20 wr is quite as amazing as people think. The run itself was eye watering but the time is not as untouchable as some think.

The 3k is an event that is not often contested and so is statistically weaker than the 5000m. The 3k is generally not a distance runners focus on (I think it should be). It is in the same boat as the 1k and the 600m. These events all have long standing WRs but are not actually that impressive, simply people don't really contest them. Komen ran his record pretty much solo.

I put ~7:20 equivalent with ~12:40.

So 13:00 is equivalent to 7:31.5

12:55 is equivalent to 7:28.7

12:50 is equivalent to 7:25.8

12:45 is equivalent to 7:22.9

7:30.9 is a 12:58.8 effort.

I think these numbers fit nicely with athletes like Bekele who was best at 5k/10k, not so hot over 1500m but then still managed a 7:25 3k. Same story with Geb. Then El G ran the WR over 1500m and won Olymoic Gold in the 5k (and a 12:50) and so was naturally a bit better at 3k than 5k with a 7:23.

Komen was the best 3k/5k runner ever and had a 1500m that was still very strong. He was no more a 3k runner than a 5k runner really. Kjelcha ran 7:28 and that is about equivalent to his 5k pb also.

^^^ 3000 is an off distance. Most elites run their best efforts at standard distances. Komen merely took it a bit more seriously than others.

I generally agree with this, the 12:58.8 looks about right. I would say the 1000m record is a longstanding record now, but this record is usually held by the most impressive and versatile athlete of that era eg Coe and Ngeny. The same could be said for the 2000m record which is usually held for long periods by the most dominant Miler of a particular era who is strong enough to run an extra lap at a mile pace few could match at the time eg Walker, Cram, and El G. Currently, I can't see an athlete to take down Komen's record, Kiprop maybe but not the form he has been lately.

Again everything else is bang on.

Geb was running the 3000m indoor on a number of occasions. If I remember correctly he ran 7:24-7:26 like clockwork.
