Nick was not in shape this season to run well at worlds or beyond. He ran a 48.5 400m a few weeks before worlds, revealing a lack of speed. He has run one good race in two years. By the time he races again, it will be three years.

The publicity he raised for himself damaged his reputation as someone willing to take on the world's best. He's now viewed as selfish, motivated only by money, and spoiled. It's pretty clear the whole thing was a publicity stunt. Brooks came out looking like small time chumps pandering to Nick's tantrum. His coach put in all those hours coach him, and Nick throws it away arguing over what t-shirt he has to wear in the lobby of the hotel. His coach and sponsor should have stood up to him, and told him to run at worlds. They made themselves look pathetic by preferring the cheap publicity over having their athlete compete at worlds.

Running 1:43 in Europe would have been the best thing he could do to get ready for the upcoming season. The Olympics are nearly a year away. Since he hasn't been competitive on the world scene in two years, running fast times in competitive races would be what he should be doing if he is capable of it. The fact that he's not trying shows me that he knows he's not capable of it.

For those that say he can't get into Diamond League meets, the guy was the silver medalist at World's in 2013, many time USA champion, and just generated some publicity. He could get into a Diamond League meet.
