Ran at a small Division I college (I'm not that good and the team wasn't on the national scale); started coaching high school during the indoor season of my grad year as I exhausted indoor eligibility. One of the girls I coached (who is now at a perennial D1 school) needed a little help adjusting to her summer training. I was still in okay shape so I tagged on with her for a couple of her runs.
This past August, we were six miles into a longer run when we turned onto the main road. Hadn't been on the road for more than two minutes when I felt a strong push on my right side (we had not crossed over to the left side of the road yet). This was at approximately 7:00 am.
I woke up in the hospital and was in and out of consciousness at roughly 3:30-3:45 pm. Turns out I completely blacked out, suffered a seizure at the scene and some bad road rash on my elbows, back, and back of left knee. Elderly lady hit me with her van, while going 40 MPH. Nothing structurally broken but memory was really bad for about two months. Slowly got back to running 10 days later.
