that's stupid whatever happened to getting kids fit. Probably some fatass making the decision. SMH
just say "its not cross country practice, its just that all the kids on the xc team and the coach just happened to be using the park at the same time!"

I did and I agree with the first guy on there. Somethings missing with this story.

Yes, you're right something is missing from this story. They have been favoring equestrian use on the trail system there in lieu of runners in the past two years and we don't know why? They refer to the deed stating that the trails are for equestrian use only and that does not appear anywhere in the deed. The only thing in the deed about horses is that horse racing is not allowed.
The first guy on there is referring to XC meets which are still allowed there on a limited basis. Practices are not allowed at all anymore even though team were allowed to practice there for years. They have changed their policy based on a lie.
Believe what you want but you can also call the Goddard Park office and ask them if they changed their policy and no longer allow XC teams to practice there. 401-884-2010. They will tell you what I am telling you. Nobody but that one guy is questioning whether teams have been tossed out of there.

This has been a two year battle with them. First off, this tactic will not work.
Second, we are trying to teach the kids that there is a process for opposing something like this. Sneaking around is not an option. We need to handle it in a civilized legal manner and if we lose in the end we have to accept that we will never again be allowed to practice there whether that is right or wrong.
I agree that they should be banned from the park. Which petition do I sign since I agree?

That's fine, it's better that we support each other in our own community. Ray Tracy and Molly Huddle were asking folks to sign it earlier today.
I thought I would get some support here from fellow runners but you guys are too good for us.
Sorry Ray. Treacy.
The issue with the trail, which is seaside, is erosion. It is common for parks to close trails when the park people think it is time to let the land rehab by reducing wear and tear. Running and biking on trails causes more erosion.
The shoreline of Goddard Park is not in danger of being developed, but it does face a surprisingly high amount of erosion. Your task is to use the shoreline change map above to calculate how long it will take for this eroding headland to erode beyond the current walking trail.

Did you read the petition? They are expanding the use of the trails for horses. Do I need to go on?
Also, the damage done is proportional to the square of the mass, so horses + riders do a lot more damage than runners.

You need to accept that you need to find another trail to run on. Plain and simple. Need I explain it further to you?

Except that 8, or so, runners out weight a horse (~1000 lbs), and they hit the trail more often.

Wear is actually a function of weight per axle. Since horses and people both have zero axles, they both cause wear of infinity.

Ugh, the issue has NEVER been about the erosion of the trails. The trail system lies far enough away from the shore were it is not a factor. You can not even see the water from most of the trails in the park.
Let's Run please remove this thread. I'm done here.
Find another trail to run. You are hardly the first runner or group to be asked move. So, relocate.
