They last longer than needles, but I don't think they were ever really intended to be a cultural accomplishment.
Thoughtful stuff
From the UK perspective it was a grand since the half-breed Semites bathed daily, kept livestock separate from humans, and wiped their butts after doing #2 -- the British did none of those until the US Army taught the UK cleanliness during WWII.

Excellent post.
Of course we're all still wondering who actually built the pyramids, since it's obvious the Egyptians found them in the desert, they couldn't build a proper hut never mind massive stone monuments. The only thing the Egyptians did was see their Pharaohs decree that they we monuments to themselves, and had their people add hieroglyphics and dig some tunnels.

The kind that allows itself to be led by a foolish, narcissistic freak who has spent a lifetime basking in praise and obscene luxury.

Now where does that sound familiar...
i mean, what the hell else were those slaves gonna do with their lives?
The pyramids were built by ancient aliens

We dedicated massive resources to getting a handful of guys to walk around on the moon for a few days, and another fortune to make bombs and missiles capable of annihilating life on earth. At least the Egyptian's accomplishments have stuck around for several thousands of years. Its been roughly 50 years since the moon landings, and many people don't believe they ever happened. As for the ICMBs, if all goes well, we will dismantle them and there will be no trace of them for future generations to marvel at our wasteful accomplishments.
Who knows, maybe the Egyptian pyramids where also motivated by some sort of cultural arms race with the Mesopotamians.

That was good: the moon. Also pyramids are good too.

This. Best guess is that the pyramids were some sort of electrical production device, but who built them is a mystery. The Great Sphinx is even older. Check out some of the videos on YouTube. It's pretty interesting stuff.

The pyramids were not built by slaves. They were built by skilled construction workers. Some were not Egyptians but immigrated from other regions. They were the forefathers of today's H-1B workers.
I've splained this before that the pyramids are nothing but a giant public works project that the pharaoh built because the economy failed. What better way to create jobs than to have people pile up the biggest pile of rocks ever.
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
‘My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.â€

Squanders?
Those pyramids have been one of the most important assets of the Egyptian economy for millenniums.
If anything, the pyramids are underrated. Without the ancient Egyptian monuments, who knows what Earth, Wind and Fire would have used for album covers?
