He has a day job?
Stream worked fine for me, but the stream of first quarter of the men's race was a bit dark for me.
Put this on national TV? Uh, sure, for the five people who may be interested.

See? A dick. Nothing of value to add, just 20/20 hindsight and a bullying attitude. Please review your posts and reconsider your place in the world.

Lots of racing wrote:Murphy and Centro for top 2. After that it will be interesting. I like Alexander. He is extremely consistent. Never seems to have a bad day and every now and then shocks the hell out of everyone. If he has one of those races like he had at Tracktown a month ago, he could place top 3. Otherwise, Blankenship and Robby are in great shape coming off the Games. O'Hare got 2nd last year although it was a semi-slow year last year.
Terrible analysis.
Your dead-certain statement that Murphy would top-2 was beyond stupid.
ANd you got nothing right except that Centro would place top 2. Wow, the Olympic champion beating a domestic field...what a genius prediction.
Murphy lolololololol
I mean 1000 bucks for a surge... Id probably do the same.

Anyone else have their streams go out?. On the women's race mine went out from the three-quarters mile point to the finish and same thing on the mens but I was trying to watch on a phone off LTE .
And how hard up is Murphy for cash? Sprinting for the half way prime was idiotic. Also they didn't mention it I think but there was a $5000 bonus for a sub 3:50.
The real question of the day is how in this age is this not in TV during an Olympic year?

I forgot about the races and missed the women's race. I was watching Maryland vs. Howard in football. 35 to 0 at half.
I forgot Murphy is in this. So if he wins this, we all agree he would have won Olympic 1500 gold, right?
Not to be mean but being the founder of Letsrun, I thought it was your job to know these things.

It's been on national TV in the past. Beats a tractor pull.

He was thinking, "Wow, $1000 bucks for a two second surge!" He also scored cash for the finish place and likely a good bit of change for just showing up. Also, Try Betterer is a dick.
How much appearance fee do you think they get?
What is more devastating for Centro, the "Post-Olympic Kilometer" in Switzerland or the TRAGIC look over his shoulder at the tape in New York to lose the MILE?
Damn, missed due to signing papers for our new home. Many $600K to $1 mil+ homes in sight (ha ha not ours, bottom 3%ers by letsrun standards).
That said, is there a results link? The NYCRR page is pretty poor.

That is a very disrespectful statement to the flag.

Are you actually "Lots of racing" under a new handle? Because suddenly he's missing after promising to be back and laugh about his predictions coming true. If you talk like that, you're going to get it pointed out when you're wrong. Don't like it? Go elsewhere.
And maybe you should consider your place in the world, which seems to be giving out sanctimonious advice on an internet message board.
Finally, knowing that Murphy wouldn't be near the win isn't 20/20 hindsight. It was obvious foresight to any thinking person.

I think that you spelled DEVASTATING wrong.
Anybody see the race? How did Jenkins catch Centro? Was it a surprise at the finish or were they neck-and-neck - what happened?

LOL Jenkins takes Centro's behind... I mean... taking centro from behind...
This reminds me of a post I won't search for from a few years ago about Walter Dix taking Tyson Gay from behind.
Has the 5th Ave Mile course changed over the years? Maree's 3:47 and Plumer's 4:16 seem so strong (and they ran those times long before the halfway bonus was put in to encourage fast times). Simpson has looked like she might be able to grab the women's record (although she's still a ways off), but nobody's really come close to the men's until today (and again, still a few seconds off).

Track gets pretty good ratings when it's on TV. Plus road miles are cheap. Only 20 competitors versus 200+ for a real track meet.
As someone pointed out monster truck pulls are on TV.
I was looking to see what was on when this was on and to my horror discovered the ISATF Berlin meet was. That's a meet that used to be one of the best of the World but really suffered in terms of international prestige by not joining the Diamond League. It was part of the Golden League.

Jenkins needs to move down!
Jenkins has been very suspect (to me) for some time. One just has to look back at his high school pb's, what he ran/how he progressed to 13:18 his Soph year , how he slowed down while at U of O, and how he ran (progressed) during the summer in Europe. I think his mile PB was 3:57 coming into this race. 3:49, give me a break and follow his progression and when his progression has taken place.

It was a little hard to see on my phone but as best as I could tell, Centro was more focused on Colby Alexander who passed him with about 200 to go. Jenkins was steadily gaining at the end and I think managed to nab it because Centro thought he had it won when he passed Colby back. Jenkins snuck in on the other side.
Well, Eric Jenkins is now officially better than Centro.
I don't blame Murphy for that surge. He probably has been feeling tired after a long season and didn't think he would be contending for the win against a bunch of fresher 1500M specialists and veterans. The primer was the same as 5th place's money, and maybe he wasn't confident in a top 5 finish. Or, maybe he was, but just not quite fresh enough for the win. It's not all about the money, but he would have needed an outright 1st or 2nd without the primer to win more $$$ than he did, meaning he needed a sub 3:50 today. Could he have done that without the sprint? I'm sure we'll debate it for weeks...
You could know beforehand that Jenkins deserved to be there with a 3:35.94 1500m pr, along with 13:07 5000m. So, Jenkins had already run equivalent of about a 3:52 mile. This is also a very fast course. The 5th Avenue Mile is downhill overall. After a downhill first quarter, you have an uphill, but then the second half is downhill. Usually, the times aren't that great because they aren't pushing the pace, last year being a good example of how the main guys were taking it easy until about 1200m. So, while I wouldn't have predicted Jenkins would run this fast, he certainly belonged in the field. Congratulations to him. To Centro, I'd say that there is always a world of time to celebrate after you get to the finish line first. What exactly is the point of not running hard to the line so that you can celebrate? Willis got away with it last year in this race only because he had a huge lead and looked around to both sides repeatedly.
Congratulations to Jenny Simpson once again. That is a big scalp.
