I've been buying visa gift cards, then using those to purchase postal money orders, which I then cash back.
Worried about getting investigated and looking for other options..
Gotta be some ms gurus here.

Help me out. What is the point? Just a humble educator here that needs educating.

Disregard. Google is my friend.
Seems shady. I hope you get caught, but that you are only given a moderate punishment, including community service, through which you will find new meaning to your life by helping others.
What I am doing is not illegal, though the pattern can sometimes trigger an investigation.
as long as you're buying online try to buy as many as you can using BTC because authorities don't usually trace it unless you're doing some real shady stuff. Other than that VPN and you should be good.

Why would you worry about an investigation if you aren't doing anything illegal?

Apparently, some automated software that banks use flag patterns of deposits (even those under the reporting limits) for scrutiny.
Obviously, you could purchase a gift card with a credit card, turn that to a money order, and then use it to pay your rent or mortgage. There's nothing illegal about that and it's a perfectly fine way to gain a small advantage (points or cash back) for little work, and paying a legitimate bill.
OTOH, some people take this to a new level. Maybe you heard some years back where people were buying coins from the US Mint on credit cards, gaining miles, then just cashing the coins back to the bank. The US Mint stopped taking credit cards for payment.
There are "hacks" in many systems, it can be interesting to figure them out.
There's a thread on Fatwallet about it, and many on Reddit. I generally only do it for new credit card bonuses.
