That campaign was brilliant. People still remember it today. For non track people it might be the only thing they recall from the '92 games!

The goal of marketing is to get your brand remembered so consumers will buy your products. Reebok was definitely remembered through this ad campaign, albeit not in the way they planned. But the ads were the talk of the media.
The campaign was very successful.
People still remember Dan vs. Dave if you bring it up.
What they don't remember is that Dan didn't make it Barcelona (but did break the world record that year) and Dave only won Bronze.
So "They will meet in Barcelona" wasn't true.
