My guess would be that the real correlation is with poor, uneducated, chaotic families with insufficient support. A child raised by a well educated mom with help from a grandmother or aunt in a household with solid financial resources would probably do just as well on average as one raised in a traditional mom/dad/kid home. At least that is the obvious comparison that I would like to see.
I would think that kids in this situation probably have a father still in their life. A well educated mom probably is going to marry a guy that abandons his family and isn't around to help raise the child, even if part time. But still a good point.
A worthwhile study would be comparing children with no father figure whatsoever to kids with 'part time' dads AND two parent families.
And along with all the experiments, surveys, and polls on race, crime, violence etc.... income plays a role somehow.
